You're probably right that using old models and ideas is a way to save time/money and still give us content.Don't get me wrong, the FFXI design was a very good one. If they have to reuse one, I guess I'd prefer it was that one. rather than the FFXIII version*shudder* )
TBH, this isn't the first time SE has reused mob design or geometry. FFXII mandys were essentially the exact same as FFXI. (and I liked the fact that they did that). But they also created some variations on it with the Wild Onion, Pumpkin Head, etc.
Perhaps they will do the same with Adamantoise...
It's to be expected too..XI and XIV are the only MMO FF games, and like all FF games it's pretty typical to see them share designs. I mean XI's Soulflayers were basically FFIVs iirc but with an actual story attached to em.
