I hope I'm understanding this right. But from what I understood, we do get to transfer servers but only to the current existing ones.
Basically like moving from Besaid to Ragnarok will be allowed but not Besaid -> New ARR server.
I hope it's something like that because I want to transfer to Ragnarok at ARR launch. But I think I read in the past that we weren't going to receive a character transfer during the starting period(like first month(s) ). Which made me quite sad back then. I don't know if a DEV or someone else could confirm this.
Edit: NVM, I read the linked posts of Bayohne and it already answers my questions. Guess it's just wait and see. While hoping that we get a free server transfer ticket to the existing servers at launch.

I would be nice to have some clarification of what is going to happen at ARR with the current servers, at least find out if they are going to stay in JP since current players will not be able to transfer. But with the post of Rukkirii, it sounds we are not going to have any answer until close to Beta.
Rikkirii:
Before we finalize details for current players wishing to transfer, we'll need to consider how we'd want to handle returning players. We'll be looking at the options with regard to the Beta Test conditions.
Some of you have been asking about the bullet point we mentioned during the FINAL FANTASY 25th Anniversary Event Special Talk Session about “improving the amount of freedom of world transfers” -- this meant that we will be setting up a world transfer service similar to FFXI.
I would think that SE would have made the current players regional servers a priority or at least make a poll to see how many players would have move to a local server to get some numbers. Plus it is going to take several months to allow players to move to the new servers since a new economy those not grow in a day.
If the current player base servers stay in JP, I am guessing, including me; will not move since it is not going to be allow until after serveral months and players will get use to the lag of ARR unless it is worst than the current game.

Purpose of Currency Redenomination
When the current version of FFXIV was first designed, we were forced to inflate item prices to properly balance the prices for consumable items, such as arrows and fishing lures.* This is no longer necessary, as this type of consumable item will not be used in FFXIV: ARR.
*1 The price of one arrow was originally indexed against the cost of one sword at a rate of 1 to 1000. For example, if a gladius were priced at 200 gil, the equivalent level warped arrows would be priced at 0.2 gil each. However, because decimal pricing is not possible, prices would have to be rounded to the nearest whole number, rendering it comparatively expensive to be an archer. This problem was addressed by increasing all item prices by a factor of ten.
In conjunction with the removal of player-operated bazaars in FFXIV: ARR, all items and gil in player bazaars at the time the servers go down will be returned to player inventories. This includes gil which is being offered in the ‘seek item’ section of a bazaar. Because of this, it is possible that the resulting gil total may exceed the limit of 999,999,999. Therefore, this change also ensures that players will not lose any gil.
That said, this currency redenomination is primarily intended to reduce the excessively large values used in all transactions. We would like to reiterate that the effective purchasing power of your savings will not be reduced.
- Summary -
The last digit was for ammunition only, with a currency redenomination and taking away a digit, we are able to work with smaller numbers making it easier to manage. You will NOT be loosing money, a sword that was 1,000 gil is now 100 gil. So if you had 1,000 gil in your pocket you will now only have 100.
EVERYTHING is loosing a digit, so your actual amount of money you hold technically is the same, just one less-digit along with the rest of the economy.

I hope a decent amount if new players come to existing servers. My friend and I were looking forward to making a free company focused on helping new players and building a semi small tight knit group
I believe that at launch all the servers are still going to be in Japan and then the new Servers will be different names.....
IF they would do the route of saying this server goes to NA... then they would either shut that server down for like a week or 2...
OR... DO a Save Maintenance on the game, then go and set up new servers in NA, then in the course of a day or so... (depending on Internet Speed).... Transfer ALL Game Data over to the NA office....
All this sounds so time pressed other then just setting up the new servers in NA and then just making it available for new Character Creation only for the first few months so the Economy can be properly built.
Also People should not freak out because I am sure the Latency of the Servers should not be as bad as they are now in 1.0...
Dude... you totally missed what the Community Team said... They already answered this question...
They Said at launch there will not be ANY World Transfer right at launch....
They said that if characters that wish to transfer to a new Server at launch then they would have to make a new character on that new server...
Region Servers included....
Damn you people give me a headache.

FFXIV has a huge negative stigma to overcome. It may be likly that the game won't attract many new players and a lot of these fresh start regional servers could be pretty much ghost towns.
Have devs taken this into consideration?
Well, your headache is about to get worse after I try to explain what I think is going to happen. (Obviously we need Dev/Rep clarification but I'm going to speculate some more anyway.)
New Servers is not the same as New Worlds.
We are all getting "New Servers". The 1.0 servers were crap. SE bought brand new servers with a different structure to host the 2.0 game. They are shutting down the 1.0 servers in order to transfer all our character data over to the New Servers. After the transfer is complete they may bring the old servers back online for peeps that still want to play till the New Servers go Live.
We are not all getting "New Worlds". The New Worlds are reserved for New Players at time of launch (we may be allowed to transfer later). These New Worlds will have New Names (different from what we currently have).
The "Existing Worlds" (Excalibur, Balmung, Gungnir, etc.) will be on New Servers but (here is the highly speculative part), some of them will be located in NA, EU or JP (probably based on current player ratios/%'s).
I couldn't find it but I remember Yoshi said that when we log into the new client, we will have the option to choose an "Existing World" located in our region however, I think they have walked this back and we may have to wait "a short time" untill they determine how many "existing accounts" return to the game at launch.
I do recognize the one major flaw in my argument in that for this to work they would either have to transfer our character data to each Existing World ahead of time or we would have to wait untill our transfer is "approved" to be able to log in.
I'm sorry for the long, rambling post (now I have a headache) so I'll just shut up now and wait for a clarified Official Response.
