Will we have the chance to change names once ARR starts?

It's still being worked on by the development team, and nothing has been confirmed yet, but here is the latest update made by Rukkirii a few weeks ago. When we have more details, we'll be sure to share them with you!

Will players be able to redo their point allotment? I know in my case I all of my stones and would like to a fresh start in putting in the right setup for two classes such as PLD and DRG. I don’t see why there will be an issue since point allotment will be more effective in 2.0?

You had the Hymn's for that :P There will probably more chances to obtain them in 2.0 or the whole thing will be redone.

I really don't know what's so hard about this name change deal.. All we need to do is find this little guy!

Am I the only one who, for YEARS since the 90s, thought Namingway was some dude wearing a turban, with a crazy mustache and beard, rather than an anthropomorphic creature? It wasn't until the remakes that I realized it was supposed to be a critter... tripper... fritter.

As for name changes, I'll most likely still be a Lalafell unless they surprise us with some new options like hybridization (Mithra-Lalafell would be awesome), but in either case I think I'll be changing the character in such a significant way that I'll want a new name for them.
Also, the reps posted the rules on Lalafell naming conventions a while AFTER I made this character, so I'd really like another shot at a proper Lalafell name if I do (after a big makeover) remain a Lalafell.

Back in XI on Asura, there was a galka mule called Fairyprincess that used to sit in Rolanmart constantly (before it became Ru'lude Mart.)

As for me, I'd loooove to change my name; I'd like a fresh start and just leave 1.0 behind... but not lose all my levels that I've worked really hard for D:. If I can't get a name change, I'll probably suck it up and make an alt♪

for me its a must. Race or even gender change makes no sense to me if you are unable to change the name.

so it definatley should be possible. otherwise old players have a big disadvantage against new players.


or shall i call my female mi'quote "Tidus" for example? or my male miq'uote "Tessa"? ;D
i know many mmorpgs where you can change your names. i dont know why this seems to be such a big deal for SE.... well once again it seems they have not much experience with MMorpgs .

Basically 2 reasons for name changes

1) Have a bad reputation
2) Chose something stupid but funny in the moment e.g. "Melty Strawberry" instead of a "real" name.

Not really happy for the people who may get a chance to get out of the former, but hopefully seeing a lot less of the latter will be awesome.

Actually you're missing the biggest reason of all. They're finally adding male miqo'te and female roegadyn, if people wish to switch genders then it's likely they would want a name to match.

I am changing my race and looks and therefore want to change my name to match so neither of those two apply.
