Will we have the chance to change names once ARR starts?

Basically 2 reasons for name changes

1) Have a bad reputation
2) Chose something stupid but funny in the moment e.g. "Melty Strawberry" instead of a "real" name.

Not really happy for the people who may get a chance to get out of the former, but hopefully seeing a lot less of the latter will be awesome.

3) You're a roleplayer and you wish to change your name and appearance because you plan to play a different character in ARR, but you don't want to lose all your hard work and all the levels you gained.

I guess that is optional but you will know or figure out who said person is likely within a short time, someone will have them on their friendlist and the name will be out and about. So actual reasons for name changes are:

1) Sex change, Say my name is Bob Mack and I am a Roegadyn, if I change into a female Roegadyn the name Bob Mack wouldn't be too fitting or if I changed into a female Miqote. Likewise can be said for Female to male name changes, some names don't apply because they aren't really names, but tons of people actually take time to come up with a name for their character. I've had my character name planned up since like year 2000 and I planned on using it in FFXI but surnames didn't exist in it.

2) What you said is a prime example I would love to see those retarded names disappear personally, lol.

3) Some may just want to change their name for any number of personal reasons, my name originally had 2 "R's" in it but when I made a beta character on Wutai I had that name but used a different account. Well when they saved those names for the people who had a beta account and I used a my previous SE account I was unable to claim my original name. It is now Dargoth instead of Darrgoth and that may seem insignificant to someone else but I would simply like to add my extra "R" back to my character name. There may have been others who would like to fix a small error in their names. Or add something new to it or change the way they spell it to make it more memorable.(Some of my LS mates I can't remember their names majority of the time even when I party with them all the time because their names are very forgettable)

People also might want to change if they are changing race or gender. For example, anyone planning to change from, say, female Lalafell named 'cutie angel' might not want to keep the name if they decide to change to a male Roe, for example.

As for me, I'd loooove to change my name; I'd like a fresh start and just leave 1.0 behind... but not lose all my levels that I've worked really hard for D:. If I can't get a name change, I'll probably suck it up and make an alt♪

i think people deserve a fresh start come new game. and if thats the case then they would have no reason to play unless they start with a new char. so why not its not fair if you accidently dc and log back in to find u got an item that the game randomly looted to u and have to roll again for to be branded a ninja looter for an accident.

in my opinion the game already randoms to u so it should be urs unless u dont want it or already have it then it should be rolled for.

Kinda sounds like you're defending ninja looters. and other such people. there is typically a really obvious difference between the accidental oh fk it dropped to me.... so sorry and make every effort to put it right even if it means doing 1000 more runs and the blatent im not passing drop party dc don't come back etc.

i would simply hope that any name change is reflected on the lodestone somehow for example john smith (formerly jane doe) or something similar. but thats partly because i think a few players are being deliberate douches not caring cos in 2.0 they'll have a new identity new server and leave no evidence. i'm just a pessimist.
