Something is going to happen after the maintenance. You can lose all the faith in SE that you want, but it's silly to think that they would so thoroughly set up a climactic event and then just do nothing.

Dalamud has been falling for months and now it is about to strike the planet's surface. The Twelve are about to be summoned in a last ditch effort to prevent Dalamud from destroying us all. The Garleans have gathered, and are about to launch a final major assault, and the Grand Companies and adventurers (us) need to hold them back to allow the summoning to happen.

That's where we are right now. I mean, you can look at it however you want, but that isn't an ending. The climax has yet to happen.

That's entirely possible. It falls in the realm of something happening.

But to be honest, the ~10 day time period between the final save and the servers getting shut down is telling. It's a distinct window in which a final event can happen. There's no other reason for it being there.

Yoshi stated that if the servers went back up for us after the 11th (which the poll has now shown that it will), that players who logged in would have to ignore the fact that the world would then conflict with the story.

Considering that nothing we have now conflicts with the servers coming back online as is, this confirms that something significant will change before the servers go down.
