What is Titans connection with all of the events? That is previous content that was being held out for 2.0, normally players looking for a new MMORPG will get that kind of information on the website -- therein lies the issue, the website they have to learn from is http://lodestone.finalfantasyxiv.com/pl/index.html, which could as stated be nowhere near accurate come ARR.

Why do you think official websites exist? Surely not only for players who are currently playing.
You just restated that stuff without giving me real reasons why do you need to know about the Titan stuff for example. It was supposed to be a Primal Fight just like Garuda or Ifrit, but was changed to Moogle afair from what they said some time ago, because of some development issues.

I'm going to repeat: the stuff you're asking about is pretty deep game details that would mean nothing to a new person. That's why I don't see why use the "new players need to know that stuff" argument.

Of course I agree that the official website is empty, because that's true no matter how you look at it. I'm just saying you seem to be saying what info S-E should release based on what you personally feel to be interesting to you, and not what would appeal to the general public of new players.

You can't be saying that all the information they provided about the game in interviews, producer letter and so on are not about the 'game' only because they did not contain some of the stuff that you are dying to know.

die-hard also die·hard (dhärd)adj. Stubbornly resisting change or clinging to a seemingly hopeless or outdated cause.

This has to be the most accurate thing I've ever read on this forum. Thank you for your honesty.
Indeed. Could you imagine how much better XIV would have just been like XI? If it ain't broke, no need to fix it.

I can't imagine that, because if it's just like XI, XIV can't be better. This, however, isn't Final Fantasy XI...it's Final Fantasy XIV...so we don't need to copy that game in every detail!

Take 'em off man, it'll be ok.

I think we were left with more questions than answers for a lot of stuff.

As a new player I would want to know how the following works: (in no particular order)

    Battle System
    Social System (chat, guilds, etc.)
    Market System
    Crafting/Gathering System
    Class/Job System
    Control/UI Features
    Leveling/Progression System
    Dungeon/Endgame Content
PVP (I don't care about this one personally, but a lot of people do)

    Of what we know already:

Battle System: It will be faster paced and classes will start with TP at the start of a battle to be able to use a special attack. Combos will now expend TP after the first WS. Casters must be in active mode to cast a spell. There is also the Limit Break system to where everyone's combined efforts can be unleashed to create varying effects based on the class/job that initiates the Limit Break.

Social System: Linkshells are being relegated to chat channels while Free Companies will take the place of a "main linkshell" and act as what is a Guild in other MMOs.

Free Companies will eventually have their own housing, can gain the power of a Primal when defeated in battle, will have shared storage for members based on permission levels, and can apparently gain levels through participating in various content which will benefit them somehow.

Market System: The Market Wards are apparently staying. On top of what is already implemented, we'll be able to further filter results by being able to search for only HQ items and only items with materia. The new server structure should also be able to handle more retainers per ward. Each city's Market Ward will also be linked.

Crafting/Gathering System: Crafters and Gatherers alike will consume ability points in order to use abilities while crafting/gathering. Crafters will have a recipe book for all synths they have learned. Crafting action speed has been increased. It has been said that crafters will not need to level multiple crafts to high levels to be able to HQ gear. Spearfishing has been removed from the game and supposedly all current stackable bait has been removed from the game. Gatherers will be able to obtain treasure maps while gathering.

Class/Job System: The new pet/DoT class Arcanist will be available at launch with SMN added in a later content patch. Revisions are being made to each class/job but nothing specific has been mentioned yet.

Control/UI System: The control system for PC is being made to be standard to most other keyboard/mouse controls for other MMOs. There will also be a new control scheme for controllers for PS3 and PC. PC UI sounds like it will easily customizable, while PS3 has a rather set UI with maybe some minor changes that can be made. Drag and drop is an option. Gear sets take equipment out of inventory and store them in their own inventory on a per class/job basis.

Leveling/Progression Systems: Leveling will primarily be accomplished by quests. There are also dungeons which are designed towards leveling up which have some story tied into them. Grinding on monsters either solo or in a group out in the open no longer sounds viable. It has been said there should be enough content to support a brand new player to be able to level all jobs to max level. Leve quests will also still be in the game.

Dungeon/Endgame Content: There will be endgame content for 8 people up to 24 people to tackle. Bosses will reward victories with gear everytime, and tokens for other purchasable gear. (It's still unconfirmed what kind of limit is in place for obtaining gear, whether it's a 3 day lockout per dungeon or if you can win more than three pieces of gear a week. I personally feel it's the first option) There will be dungeons designed for the purpose of leveling up (as mentioned above) and should span across multiple level ranges.

PVP: There will be arena style PVP and also PVP between members of Grand Companies.

This is pretty much what we know so far, and these are the kinds of things new players are going to want to know, which is what they're trying to draw in right now. (I may have missed something, was going pretty much off memory) The things they're doing *should* appease current players I think for the most part as well. However, this kind of information should be posted in a more centralized location (like the finalfantasyxiv.com websites) for more people to see, rather than in scattered community rep posts or fan translated Japanese interviews. (and don't get me wrong, I appreciate the people who are bringing us any new info about ARR)

They can't even tell us why the hell there are level 70 cactuars running around all over the place. SE is just terrible with information its as simple as that. Remember that materia conversion chart that was in the actual website itself for god knows how long before someone stumbled across it? It wasn't officially announced and I am pretty sure it still isn't even linked on the main page under materia even though weve known about it for a year.

It is just a wait and see kind of thing, just like it always is and always will be with SE. I mean, they said the alpha will be starting towards the end of October and thats only 2 weeks away yet no one knows anything about it. Whether or not its because they are too focused on 2.0 and want to surprise us or because there isn't even enough development done for 2.0 and they don't even have information remains to be seen.

And in reality does it even matter if they give us information? Every single person that bothers coming to these forums will probably be there on day 1 to play 2.0 at launch regardless of the information we get now. On the other hand, the more hyped an mmo is the more likely it is to crash and burn because of the flocks of people that migrate from one mmo to another even though they don't like playing mmos or any aspect that makes an mmo an mmo in the first place, thus causing a mass exodus of players a month after launch saying the game sucks which scares away other people that might have played it and enjoyed it otherwise.

I remember when Alpha was the end of september - early october and beta would be after the servers goes offline.

Taken from a recent interview with Yoshi-P that Reinheart translated...

Who wants to bet that the lack of "flood" is the fault of people complaining about stupid things like the grass and generally holding pre-alpha gameplay to unreasonable expectations?
