Posts like these makes me wonder why you are here.Ambition to instance everything and make a quest-spam progression system?... real ambitious. Meanwhile other games are making non-instanced housing systems, and combat with active blocking/dodging, and so-called dynamic quests. Yoshi might be ambitious in his own head, but vision he certainly lacks. Unless by vision you mean copying WoW any chance he gets.
Why do I get the feeling that people are really bored? lol
Ok,ok if you're a Tanaka loyalist raise your hand cause i know you guys are in here.LOL
The only MMO with 'true' active combat is TERA. I can say zero about B&S because that isn't out in the west yet - and it won't be for quite a while. TERA is the only game I've seen that gives you full control of your avatar when it comes to hitting, moving, and dodging attacks. Don't even mention GW2 because tab-targeting is still a huge flaw in that game's system.Ambition to instance everything and make a quest-spam progression system?... real ambitious. TERA in the west also has 'quest-spam progression'- I think completing an objective and getting a large amount of bonus experience on top of the experience given from the task alone is better than mindlessly grinding mobs for hours and hours. I'd rather get more experience in a shorter amount of times by doing quests, learning some lore, and being guided from area to area; in TERA, it made things quite easy, and leveling wasn't difficult at all. Would you rather go back to pre-Abyssea FFXI where leveling to 75 can take weeks? Even months, depending on the circumstances? No thanks.
A non-instanced housing system is irrelevant. I'd rather have my own player home in an area lotted off for me and others I welcome into it, rather than having to deal with idiots and their Barrens-style chat while I'm raising a chocobo or messing around in my house.
Oh, and if ARR was going to copy WoW, then everyone would get an instant 50 class/job with a relic weapon and all the AF, since Blizzard is so keen on giving instant high-levels to newcomers simply for buying Expansion X.
Move along, nobody appreciates someone talking about the game like they've played it.. when you obviously haven't. Lol.
Admittedly, I do enjoy the way FFXI was for leveling, going into alot of different zones and meeting lots of new people rather than questing. But a huge flaw in this was you needed a very strict PT(being as only 6 players) and you could be waiting hrs/days or even weeks(hi drks/pups/blms post aht) for a PT invite. But that was a while ago and people don't really want that anymore, personally myself I don't think I can sit around all day again waiting for invites/making PTs so I do enjoy the quest system and It is a nice step forward to actually bring casuals to the game, which the game clearly needs is more players.
It's funny how people say Yoshi is copying off WoW, but if you look at alot of MMOs they are doing the same concept, instance dungeons(who wants to camp HNM again cept hardcores?), also quest system for casual players.
Personally(yes my opinion before ppl jump me) I think taking on Yoshi was a great choice for SE to do and to let Tanaka go, granted Tanaka made FFXI work in the past but that sort of thing won't pass these days and people would just get bored and leave. If I remember correctly, alot of people enjoyed abyssea for XI but then when Tanaka took charge again, alot of people hated voidwatch.
Voidwatch is good, Abyssea ruined the game.
Sorry that everyone isn't happy with everything SE does, once you're done questioning the fact people may not be happy with everything, reread this part of his post:
While few MMOs are like this, you have to admit, all YoshiP is doing is making XIV how MMOs were back in 2004-2006 era, not really doing anything new. Tanaka had vision (XI was successful), Tanaka had ambitions, everything he tried to do was usually for the sake of trying to make something new for MMOs, the ideas were half implemented or else it probably would have went over a lot better.Meanwhile other games are making non-instanced housing systems, and combat with active blocking/dodging, and so-called dynamic quests. In this shot,Logistically speaking, (for a gamepad user) how are you going to switch targets mid combat and select actions with any amount of speed? As it is now, in combat you have to cancel your action bar selection with O, press <- or ->, and then hit X to have your bar pop up for action selection. How are we supposed to switch targets when the D pad and the four main buttons are all default to actions (I'm assuming only in combat when you have your action bar displayed)? Is cancel going to be one of the bumpers? Or am I wrong in thinking that X, O, square and triangle have actions bound to them?
The player has just pressed R2+X button. Pressing L2+Right would use a potion. L2+Up is sprint. L2+Triangle activates Eagle Eye Shot. This is action bar 1 (of 8) which is selected when L2+R2+Up is pressed.
