Well if I am the crafter and provided you can see the name before you purchase the item, there is no reason you should be allowed to erase it. If you don't like the crafter's name however, feel free not to purchase the item.

It wasn't possible to erase the crafter's name in DAoC, craft was important part of gearing (at least ~2+ piece of gear had to be crafted), and it was really neat to be able to check people's equipment and be like "oh this guy is wearing what -I- made". It was an amazing way for crafters to get known and advertise their services. (Lot of items were very hard to craft, so craft was often done "on demand", so knowing who was a reliable crafter was important.)

The name of the item creator should be honoured

I suppose if they make some crafting recipes harder, I dont see FFXIV crafting that hard though and it seems it will be getting easier in 2.0. I feel some of the high end +1 items are hard to make and wouldn't mind sticking around with their name but it feels silly to see a name on a shitty spirit bound item.

Or I guess a calling card on crafting items would be cool - if you leave your signature someone check "hotkey" + click the item and be able to leave a message. Could even create a request system around it so when you log on you have a list of player requests (like player quests, get gil and exp - and you can mail the item to complete and receive the reward).

Anyway I have an awkward feeling if it has little use and it is on small items. I wouldn't fight against it though, its not really that big of a issue for me.
