Guys don't you get it? bullying is wrong!
I know what it feels like because in real life I'm a scene girl.
And people really hate scene girls for some reason :x

this one time some guy put the wrong hairspray in my hair.. like gross.

But yeah, bullying is not funny or cool. Be nice! or be lice? or something

Also I get bullied all the time on these forums and it makes me really sad ; ; You guys don't want me to cut do you!?
People always make fun of my posts telling me I'm stupid and to go away.
    Its super mean

There are many corollaries to Godwin's law, some considered more canonical (by being adopted by Godwin himself)[3] than others.[1] For example, there is a tradition in many newsgroups and other Internet discussion forums that once such a comparison is made, the thread is finished and whoever mentioned the Nazis has automatically lost whatever debate was in progress. The coupling of this corollary with the initial statement of the law proves every threaded discussion to be finite in length.[8] This principle is itself frequently referred to as Godwin's law. It is considered poor form to raise such a comparison arbitrarily with the motive of ending the thread. There is a widely recognized corollary that any such ulterior-motive invocation of Godwin's law will be unsuccessful

aww you technically ended the thread /close. lol.

Almost all internet services games and social networks have a ignore user / blacklist option.

Even though this probably won't prevent the initial griefing you can always utilize this to prevent it in the future.

Personally, don't let it get to you. Remember, your attitude determines your latitude .

When I was in highschool I saw real bullying. People physically assaulting people. Taking their money..their bus passes. Taking thier food during lunch or knocking it on the floor for no reason. Throwing stuff at them during class. Ripping their clothes or book bags for fun. Or dumping the contents of their bookbags in the trash. Breaking their belongings. All that in addition to the "emotional" stuff like name calling. All this was pre Columbine when telling the teachers didn't help much. I used to see people go through that everyday and it's not like a game where you can just log off.

You really thing someone spamming /laugh really compares to that?
First off, no some people can say really awful things and it's not really a "minor annoyance" to have your feelings hurt. Other people's words do have more of an impact than "oh man this guy is annoying". It is very stressful to be the focus of someone who makes it their goal to make you unhappy.

Secondly, this is a video game. No one is really comparing it to real life bullying. Neither are close to one another and they both are handled completely different and any "back in my day" examples do not discredit the harm that online bullying does. Saying you can "turn it off" is also an invalid argument because now you have an issue where other people are forcing you to not be able to use a service that you pay for. It's like telling a kid who's bullied in school "Well you can always just drop out".

And lastly, no. /laugh spam does not compare to real life bullying but when done to harass someone In Conjunction With My Other Examples only adds to the emotional stress. Also, that type of argument you made is a complete fallacy anyways.

Once again, too many responses to read through.

Yes, bullying is a problem in all parts of the internet. Unfortunately their goal is to get a reaction, which is exactly what this thread is giving them. For better or worse, there is no "Killing Ifrit" website for XIV that I know of where people can slander each other, but that doesn't mean you can't warn your friends if someone is abusive. Just remember that rumors are rumors - not everyone will believe them, and not all of them are believable.

Someone had already mentioned it but I want to parrot it anyway - remember that this is the internet and you are playing a game. The glory of it is you can screenshot their antagonizing comments to you or another individual, report it (or keep a file to create a virtual "paper trail"), report it to the GMs and advise all those who were effected, including yourself, to put them on ignore. You have the power over yourself - the bully does not have power over you unless you give it to them. Shut their arses right down. I know the tactics have to be different outside of the internet, there is no doubt. However, you have many options here. Just tell them, "Hey, welcome to my blacklist. Have a nice stay." /blist.

Also, I see no problem with the OP posting this. This isn't necessarily playing into the hands of a bully. What it does is it tells the bully(s) that we are on to their game, they are going to be taken to task and gtfo basically.

I cannot stress this enough (and others have voiced it) - bullies are fueled by an ongoing negative interaction. Just stop, recognize for what it is and act accordingly.

I guess my point is if you've been through or seen real bullying then online "bullying" won't seem like a big deal. Someone saying really mean things to me online isn't going to ruin my game experience or cause me emotional stress. If you've had real emotion stress in your life this is probably wouldn't bother you either..

I mean if someone saying "really mean things" to you is enough to cause emotional stuff how do you deal with other problems in life? Not to be insensitive but the best thing to do is develop a thicker skin. The fact that you're sensitive makes you a target for things like this. People only will only bother you on the internet if they know you'll let it get under your skin. Don't give people that power to ruin your gaming experience. It's just words and emotes. Nothing more.
