A craptastic grindfest designed to burn time and keep people occupied. Seriously, take a look at the quest itself.

1a. Obtain 25k marks for key item
1b. Obtain 3 seals from each hamlet
-low drop rate, divided by 8 potential players, multiplied by 3
1c. Double-meld
-low success rate for meld
-moderate success rate for actual base weapon
-heavy time investment for mats or heavy gil investment

And that's just the first leg and I'm being really conservative. Is this good content? Not by a longshot. This is horrid, to be honest. What I'm saying is that this wasn't meant for heavy use people - it was meant to keep people busy and distracted. And it's crap.
Hamlet is stand alone content that just happens to be a stop in the relic path. It isn't all about relic. There are other reasons to do hamlets.

But it is a problem that people are largely only doing it for relic because when they move on the requirements are too high to get Hamlet to rank 2. Therefore people coming into the game or not at a point where they could do hamlet when it was steamrolled by the vets don't get to even enjoy it, let alone work on their own relics when that time comes. So SE either needs to give better incentive to still do hamlet or lower/change the reqs to advance it. Maybe something similar to how besieged works but further improved upon.

If this were just filler content, I would be inclined to not care either, but it's not filler. Hamlets will be content in ARR. Unfortunately they will only be lively for about 2 months and then die off again because the reqs are too high for the people that want to still do it or are wanting to do it for the first time.

@Zumi: I'm not really sure how much if any of the hamlet content is being redone. In fact, I'd really love to read any info on changes that might occur if anyone knows of some official snippets. What I do know, however, is that it is carrying over into ARR and it should be something people can still enjoy after the first couple months.
