They should transfer the character data right before the release so they have no time to test it and no time to fix any problems. I can totally see that working out perfectly for everyone!

It's pretty unreasonable for them to take 1/3rd of a year to transfer the data to their new server (i.e. 4 months).

The November 1st date made sense in light of the fact that open Beta was originaly slated for this time, but now even alpha for western players will not be available at tihs time. So since they postponed everything else, they also need to postpone the close date. Or at least they should.

Fact is, November 1st savepoint was devised under the assumption we would have beta at this time. They obviously don't lack the capacity to keep the server up beyond this date, so they should just pospone the savepoint.

Pretty sure nobody's going to see 2.0 release until march. So unless release is in January, it's pretty premature to do the savepoint now.

If you spent your time and money for two years playing a game that caused you "pain and suffering" honestly you have problems.

They can transfer over inactive accounts. Or accounts that didnt make the cutoff. Let data save for current active accounts. They should have enough time if the are delaying beta and release.

Likewise you dont know anything about how long or fast it will take them. If they have delayed release for 4 months or more then logically it means they can transfer data a bit later then what they originally were planning.

Anyway, the november 1st date was created for a different deadline (one where JP alpha was well underway) and beta was occuring right after server shutdown.

Yeah cause Yoshi allready said that it will take about 1 month to transfer the data...

I am just glad I have other games to play besides FFXIV. Oh, reading and painting as well. I am not thrilled about this news myself but in the end, there's nothing we can do. Really. This game will either sink or swim (sorry for using an over used saying) and with these types of delays in place, I certainly hope it is a good sign that this will be fantastic. I feel like the Yoshi~san and team delays are more productive and positive then the previous developer team delays. I think most of you will know what I am talking about.

So.. Lets just hang in there and do something else. Gnashing teeth is bad for the dental work.

Add: And yes, those of you who are referencing who is tackling the alpha testing first is correct. The Japanese players first followed by the rest of us that might be chosen. The timeline was pretty tight. With this delay perhaps they will speed that timeline up? We'll see.

See, I can say I was one of the American players that /really/ wanted FF14 to continue after the date to end. Why? Because even though I have a busy life in Real Life, I played also on WoW (Crazy huh?) and I did restart my FF11 account, just encase they wouldn't keep 14 up.

I actually did a happy arm pump when they said they would be.

The reason for this is because there are several people I know in 14, that I don't really talk to outside of the game and I enjoy doing stuff with them in the game. There is a ton to still do in 14, even if the game is down. After all, 14 is a beautiful world and I for one would like to just /explore/ it. Not explore it in a very quick fashion, but actually walk the game world, check out for nooks and cranies, and just have fun being adventurous.

I could do this now, but I am trying to get stuff together for the last save, so that when its all done, I can kick back, wonder around, and take some neat screenshots. Maybe even have extra time to record the old cutscenes that will be going away/being altered.

It also maybe helps that I do actually Roleplay, and even though by Lore of the world, the continuing on kinda breaks it, but it will allow for some interesting stuff to do. Like alternate realities and such things.

And far as I am concerned, they can take however long they need for ARR, because I rather have a game that is actually ready to be released to the public, then a game that is half-assed.

Do it right or don't bother doing it, you know?
