I feel like this info would have made a better Dev post than an official letter. Is the next letter going to tell us he is putting a pot of coffee on and reading the paper? Xcom can't release soon enough.......

It would be mildly entertaining if they let us screw around with the system a bit. But they said that if they kept them up, there would be no bug fixes. So if anything is acting sketchy, we would just have to deal with it.
People seem to like talking in absolutes, and we all know the only kind of people that deal in absolutes...
But really, if you're interested and/or are really looking forward to playing 2.0, it doesn't matter what you play in the between phase. I've pretty much stopped playing my XIV Alerith and have moved back to XI Alerith until I can play any version of 2.0, be it Alpha stress test, Beta bug catchers or the final version.
No matter what games I play that come out between now and then, I am 100% fully prepared to hop back on for ARR because I truly think it's going to be a good version of the crapsatchel that was released two years ago.
People can be as negative or as optimistic as they want. In the end, it's a choice. It's an intensely personal choice.

From what I remember phase 1 of alpha is JP only , the rest is open for all regions who get an invite. I don't remember hearing it was changed other than the alpha start date

After reading the recent Grand Company - not in game - newspapers. I find myself hoping that they do want us all to gather near Mor Dhona for an Epic Battle or at least for an Epic Cutscene similar to the one in the trailer but with Our Characters being zapped by Louisoix and/or Atomos and becoming encased in Crystal...
...that would actually make all the pain & suffering for the last 2 years worthwhile.

If you spent your time and money for two years playing a game that caused you "pain and suffering" honestly you have problems. After reading the recent Grand Company - not in game - newspapers. It makes perfect sense.
It wasn't a matter of "the side with most votes wins". It wasn't a competition. It was more "are enough people interested in the idea to make it worthwhile?" His bar for it was 30% and the "yes" votes satisfied that figure. Hence, the servers will go back up.

Shhh!! Moriandrio is bitterly formulating a conspiracy theory fueled by sour grapes! Don't interrupt him! SE/Yoshi is doing something good for the community! It must be undermined and ripped apart with wild, baseless conjecture! It's still not about winning or losing, and nothing is forcing any of us to stay here. We aren't even going to be paying for it. He's letting us stay if we want to. That's very nice of him, considering keeping the servers up will at least cost SE something. And yes, being nice to your subscribers is a good way to keep them.

Well said.
The words "gift horse" come to mind reading moriandrio's response. I'm not referring to the former forum member.

If you voted for the servers to go down just don't play. Come back for the alpha/beta tests or wait till 2.0.![]()

"we’re going to take a look at the login numbers at the end of each month. In the event that numbers drop below 30%, we’ll take the servers down again" sounds like 2.0 is very far away from launch..... more waiting time, as if 2 years isnt long enough.
