I agree completely that the AoE should not have played such a huge part in chain/exp/combat/ws. None of it should have ever have been added to FFXIV. For one thing you're very limited and one mistake and you're a sitting duck with 5 mobs on you. Additionally, in the obvious endgame content you have to plan out every AoE you do or you'll not have something to kill off for example; slugs/nails on extreme/etc.
    It's a real fun killer.

Flying mounts are garbage and make your zones incredibly boring hope this helps. Also while the "action lock" right now is excessive it's not an inherently bad thing. It's incredibly common for video games in general to both disallow moving during actions and balance actions by startup/recovery time. Finally the OP reads like it was written like a year and a half ago before 2.0 was announced because they've addressed almost everything in it.

I would agree with you on most of those things. I will disagree on the clicking to move to your target, i never liked that feature in any of the mmos i played. One of the better posts on these forums.

    Thumbs up^

I respect your opinion, but please accept mine as well:

This is by far the biggest crap I've read in a while.

    1. I didn't know that opening a menu with the escape key is necessary to make a good mmo.
    2. All this reads like the perfect guide to turn this game into a world of warcraft with chocobos - i know you're looking at this from the casual point of view, but I doubt they will attract anyone if they make the game just like all the rest that is on the market.

Besides Square Enix hasn't made money in the casual zone in FFXI and they won't do it here either. Just look at your own MMO history, a game needs core players and with all your suggestions FFXIV would lose a great bunch of these. Seems to be a bad trade-off to me considering the casuals will be gone after 2 months playing perfect world or wow or whatever.

You have played WoW for years and are calling XIV slow - I agree its slower than wow, but I don't really think its worse. In WoW (yes I've played it myself) you smash your buttons and spam abilities as often as you can, just hammering your keyboard like crazy - yet the combo system in FFXIV makes the "slower" combat way more vivid than anything you have in WoW.

One thing that sets FFXI/FFXIV apart from other MMOs is the lack of twitching. These games feel much more dignified because of that. Well, maybe dignified is a wrong word, but I believe my point is clear.

FFXI was my first MMO, I literally lived there for a couple of years. Afterwards, I couldn't take any other MMO seriously - all this twitching, it looks so cartoony, so unnatural. I hope that new FFXIV won't go down that path.

i completely agree on BS, it's to much early to say, but it is still a bit slow..

But i'd like to see how it work in a boss fight, for example when you finish tp.. (we just saw video vs trash monster, so the tp didn't finish.)

Also i've seen something about 3 sec. of global CD on WS , eeeeck that is too much! I just hope they're still balancing it, of course with the feedback from alpha test.

SWTOR had potential it could have followed the badassest game of all time SWKotOR, instead it was striped of all unique elements and replaced with mechanic that could make a fish hurl, why? because thats what you wanted.

instead of ripping shit right from other games....maybe you could encourage the devs to be unique, make something fresh and new.
LOL FFXIV when it was released was UNIQUE and still is All the crap ideas they implemented turned away a lot of players.

    UI
    Market Wards
    Anima
    Party recruit system

    to name a few

After reading a little the OP, I felt the need to check the date of the topic. It looks like a necropost from 2 years ago.

    ~

Accelerating the battle pace doesn't automatically improve the gameplay. It seems there is a misconception that the quality of a gameplay is measured by the number of keys pressed. It's partially correct : the number of "actions" done by a player is indeed important, but it also includes what happens in his head, which takes time. The problem is that very few games achieve to make good slow paced games so people think that fast pace is the only thing existing on earth (chess and some others old turn-based games may have a word to say here), but it doesn't mean they can't try anymore.
