Minority always wins with XIV.What was the point of even voting? Why is it that the majority population vote never wins anything? lol
The logic is amazing though. If the majority wants something it's not implemented but if a minority wants it then WELL WE MUST MAKE IT THUS!!! (not limited to this specific poll).
The point of voting was to see if enough people wanted to continue playing to justify paying the server electricity bill and maintenance.
Evidently, they're enough.
I know for some this excruciatingly simple concept is as hard to understand as rocket science, so I explained for their benefit, even if I really shouldn't have to.

I am really confused.
When is our character data being cut off? Originally they said 1st November, with shutdown on 11th, now they're saying 11th with game possibly being up after (at it will be).
So is it the 1st or 11th?

am I missing something?
11th is when servers go down (temporarily), 1st is when characters stop getting saved.
November 1st is the save date. Nothing beyond that will be saved to the servers. November 11th was the date they planned to take the servers down. From the 1st to the 11th is more then likely a special in-game event related to the fall of Dalamud.I am really confused.

Okay, thanks, I think the translation is a bit iffy, "even if none of the character data accumulated beyond that date" to me sounds like PRE-That date, it will be saved, After (beyond) it will not. Got me all confused. I also dont get why they take server down for a little bit just to put them backup again when all data was stored on 1st, why they have to turn them on and off again
I believe they are leaving the servers on from 1 to 11 to make sure people get to see the world burn, and then they take the servers down to copy all character data out into a computer which will crunch the data into 2.0 file format.Okay, thanks, I think the translation is a bit iffy, "even if none of the character data accumulated beyond that date" to me sounds like PRE-That date, it will be saved, After (beyond) it will not. Then they will bring back the servers after copy pasting is done so that you can play on your 1.0 file format whilst a copy is being turned into 2.0.
Because even though they say nothing is being saved - I assume it will "temporarily" save what you have done, like if you break all your gear and log out, log back in and it will still be broken just not saved to the file format being converted; therefore, they cant convert your 1.0 data without making two copies of it (1 for 1.0 after November 1st, and 1 for 2.0 after November 1st).
To see if enough people want still to play it.What was the point of even voting? Why is it that the majority population vote never wins anything? lol

the emphasis is on "enough", not "most"
Thinking, conflict with story?
It's my understanding that from the 1st to the 11th there will be the cataclysmic world ending event. We will get to experience it for those 10 days before they take the servers down, even though nothing we do at that time will carry over to 2.0. Then after they bring the servers back up the event will be over and story wise it would be anachronistic for us to even still be there.
So on the 1st our progress is saved for the last time and they start the process of updating it for 2.0. then from the first to the 11th we have a chance to log in and witness the end of the world. Then they bring the servers down for a short time. (a few days? a couple of weeks?) then they will bring the servers back up... so we can... uh... toss all our gear and run naked through the streets or something.
It was also mentioned in another thread where I believe someone quoted an interview with yoshida that our character data might be transferred in time for beta. If I could remember which thread it was I'd go hunt it down and check, but it went something along the lines of "you may not have it at the beginning of beta but we're planning to give you access to your current character before beta ends."
they should make 100% drop rate when they bring it back up, for luls =D and put massive mobs right outside town haha or in town! YESS
