Synthesis is overall easier than gathering, that's not only the tool part

Hardly lol - meaning that its not just the synthesis (which I agree with that anyways ^_^)


For a gathering tool you have to get
20 (Grade 1), 300 (2), 1000 (3), 2000 (4), 4000 (5) for each zone (Limsa, Grid, Ul'd so you have to get 12,000 grade 5's).

Gathering takes a much more focused minigame so you cant watch a movie and gather effectively like you can crafting crap (like you pointed out already). But also you have a significantly larger resource count to acquire. (Sure you can say crafters have to buy their resources, but most crafters craft the really cheap stuff to get luminary gear, its not really expensive at all - or they do it during hamlet).
