Because SE likes giving us options. Maybe. My thoughts exactly.
You can wear whatever you want when you aren't fighting, so no need for vanity gear in towns.
You can complete much of the game's current content naked, so no need for vanity gear for anything but the most difficult stuff.
Why would we need the devs to make a vanity gear system just so you can look like you're wearing scale mail during Garuda and White Raven battles??
Just wear what you want, people!
Saying GOOD MMO's in one Sentence along with Lotro and GW2?... lol I played both and they both are a lot, but not good. They have some good features, but thats about it. Esp. GW2 was way overhyped and its way to casual.
thats been the game industrys goal for the past few years casual or super casual. been ages since i seen a gameover screen.
I think "Town Gear" is a nice comprimise. When you're out of town, and in field, or dungeons, then your real gear should be on show.
It would be very harmful to immersion if everyone is running around in subligar, or level 1 gear while they're supposed to be raiding high level dungeons. Just like bunny hopping...
That's not really a compelling reason to build and implement a costume system. Especially when the devs have stated good reasons as why not to.
Dark Souls brings it all back![]()

Yoshi said something to the extent that he wants players to be able to identify a player's power/level/class/etc visually. That is something that is lost if you have a costume system. (don't have link atm, but I think it was in an interview somewhere)
Though, I doubt that you'll find that reason "Good" enough to compete with:
"Because SE likes giving us options"
Lots of other games out there with vanity system if that's a deal-breaker though.

Anyways, the only thing that counters to my first post is telling someones power, which to me doesnt matter at all. Should just add vanity slots that adhere to class/job requirements. Add level requirements to it and it makes it better.

Think you just named two of the worst paired with a new good one. Most great MMOs I have played don't have that feature , though it can be nice it is totally unneeded for what they want to bring to the table.
