Sometimes aetherial-encrusted armor would just look tacky, and out-of-place, and maybe they're aware of that which is why we don't have it.
Actually the term Fantasy is descriptive for art direction:

The identifying traits of fantasy are the inclusion of fantastic elements in a self-coherent (internally consistent) setting, where inspiration from mythology and folklore remains a consistent theme.[2] Within such a structure, any location of the fantastical element is possible: it may be hidden in, or leak into the apparently real world setting, it may draw the characters into a world with such elements, or it may occur entirely in a fantasy world setting, where such elements are part of the world.[3] Essentially, fantasy follows rules of its own making, allowing magic and other fantastic devices to be used and still be internally cohesive

    Noun:
The faculty or activity of imagining things that are impossible or improbable.
    Despite:

In popular culture, the genre of fantasy is dominated by its medievalist form, especially since the worldwide success of The Lord of the Rings and related books by J. R. R. Tolkien. Fantasy has also included wizards, sorcerers, witchcraft, etc., in events which avoid horror.
I'm just saying the dominant medievalist form of fantasy is to me overplayed. This is a purely subjectivee opinion and will differ from those of others. I would prefer to see fantastic images along the lines of those posted by Tonkra. A little less medieval and a little more futuristic. In other words:

You probably didn't understand what I said if you think that replies to it.

Which part didn't I understand? I'm going to retort by claiming you didn't understand my original post because you made it seem like I was reminding Square Enix that this is Final Fantasy... when in no way did I direct my post at Square Enix.
