I like the duck hat... :cI almost forgot though.. I can't stand the look of the heavy Darksteel/Darklight "Trashcan" armor.
Let's hope they don't use that 3d mesh for any other armor (or at lease remove the stupid helmet).
Maybe we should have an 'armor design contest' on the forums.. unofficial, of course
The only part of that armor I dislike is the shoulders. It looks like you're constantly shrugging...and I can't stand that!

I've always assumed that in Tanaka's original concept for the game, he wanted to have everything be rather realistic/historical looking, and rather dull so that the team could slowly introduce flashier and more interesting designs over a long period of time. He was planning years in advance and wanted to have plenty of room to grow.i am looking at those pic and looking at ffxiv gear disgn and i am going what happen?
its like they try to be generic as much as they can with armor.
tge darksteel heavy armor just look bad
the darklight armor look real nice but besides the color still remind me of gear in game
When Yoshi-P took it over, he started to introduce flashy/goofy/eye-catching designs almost immediately (see Ifrit Weapons, Darklight, Moogle gear, Artifact, etc..)
His plan may have been to keep the player base interested, to attract more players to the game, or perhaps because he wanted to have screen shots that looked as good as other MMO games.
I personally would have rather seen a much slower ramp-up in gear/weapon design, but sadly, the initial state of the game required drastic measures to be taken.
It will be interesting to see if things get scaled back a bit after ARR.

I don't particularly have a problem with the current fashion, but i'm not a girl :x

I hope they add new gear that looks as good as AF but doesn't suck like AF.
I feel like people bandy around the term "final fantasy" as though it's a descriptive for art direction. But im pretty sure the art designers at square enix don't need anyone to tell them how to create "final fantasy", or nice looking gear, or a consistent art direction. Sometimes aetherial-encrusted armor would just look tacky, and out-of-place, and maybe they're aware of that which is why we don't have it.
Then again all this mideival/victorian/renaissance fashion is getting kind of bland no matter which way you look at it. I don't think I need to remind you this is FINAL FANTASY afterall, we have magic, and aetheryte that allows us to teleport. Couldn't we see some more fanicful armor? Aetheryte encrusted armor or something ffs... If i were a crafter in the world of FFXIV you can bet I'd be trying to make armor out of those huge crystals in mor dhona.

I really do like allot of the art style, but more Final Fantasy and less renaissance fair would be great.you are just used to FF11
the times are over.. we need more final fantasy.. in final fantasy online^^
the vanya robe is one example into that art direction.
maybe too much skin? (especially for the NA players ^)
this pose is girly isnt it? ;D
more or less like the vanya robe
