Well GP is for Abilities, No Per chop, you can get the same things without the Abilities just will be difficult without the abilities XD.The new GP system will help to stagger them though.
Also, we saw this in the live producer video - crystal shards are listed alongside the regular items. Kind of lame that we won't get them as an added bonus when gathering crafting materials, but I'm hoping they will increase the # of shards you get to compensate.
Hopefully we'll be able to gather crystals & clusters as well.
There's that sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach again...

This is good news! I have missed the ability to choose what shards I obtained while gathering through elemental affinity and now we will actually be able to harvest them outright? Good stuff. I look forward to the official news blurb.

For me, fishing in XI was ruined by the keyboard-mashing 'mini game' SE added to try to counter the bots. What happened? Bots still infested the game for years, and still do to a diminished extent, but for players who found the 'coin-op' type mechanic impossible to play for any length of time, fishing became impossible.
XI is littered with anti-RMT/anti-bot devices which all singularly failed to achieve what they set out, while leaving players as 'collateral damage' in SE's war with those using them.
XIV's short history also includes several of these, the crafting mini-games which most non-hardcore crafters despised have had to be toned down over the last two years so that they became far less mind-numbingly slow and tedious: again, these were put in as anti-bot devices, I am sure (in spite of SE's denial a long time ago) and again player fun was sacrificed on the altar of SE's failed attempts to eliminate botting here too.
SE should simply ignore them when designing content, just make it so that the botters don't actually have any marked effect.
Lol the way the current system exists it's impossible to make a "Gather bot" and I'm sure it will be in 2.0 as well. The only way to move from node to node and avoid agro while doing it is to be a human.
Hmm..that's interesting considering the amount of bots that exists atm xD.
I wanna see dark & light shards come.
Good Reason: Another 2 crafting DoH that are based off of Brand of Darkness & Brand of Light. Would also add another 2 types of crafting types in. Darkness- Decay, Light- Grow. FFXI had them and some how they were missing from ffxiv. They were much rarer to obtain also in Pre-ffxi.
Cook:
Taking unless materials and creating useful materials. Like Rotten Meat off a Skeleton and creating it to something where its fresh again.
Goldsmith:
Aging x# of Ores to there next tier
8 copper cores=1 silver ore
Blacksmith:
samething as goldsmithing but with darksteel/zinc
I could create up some other ways but don't have the creative time to do so.
