Why must chocobos be our companions

Well, about hat on chocobo, yeah, im not for that either :P if that coms, i hope its gonna be completely cusomizable. (Im gonna make a NAKED chocobo in the colors of the rainbow! )

I dont really like the chocobo costumes. And when i read that they are thinking about Red XIII as a mount..... i dont know i think they gotta take care that its not getting too silly. Its would be weird to ride on him all of sudden.

they should consume maybe exp to prevent that? what are the plans about that to prevent to have a chocobo to his side all the time except in group?

I agree with people saying that chocobo hats are just silly, and that riding Red XIII is just wrong. Personally, I don't even care for visible chocobo gear and would love it if it could be toggled off. I can understand buffing up your chocobo with certain skills or whatever, but armoured chocobo never look as cool as a simple, feathered chocobo.

Here's hoping that this game keeps it's humour without the need to resort to "LOL LOOK A CHOCOBO BLM HAT" stuff. I much prefer that kind of thing to be restricted to... say... a single NPC or something.

I have no problems with fighting with chocobos, though. Hopefully it won't get out of hand where every fight is loaded up with them, though... maybe set it so that if your chocobo KO's, there is some kind of death penalty (eg. can't be called for 30 minutes while it recouperates) so people aren't so keen to just throw them out at every battle.

EDIT: On a sidenote, I love the idea of a beastman companion. Don't know if I'd use them, as I'm quite fondly attached to my narcissistic hume female, but the option is an interesting one.

Personally, I think it is the cutest thing ever and can't wait until it is available. Different strokes, my friends.

Though, to speak to the OP, now that moogles are changing in 2.0 I wouldn't mind having the option to have a moogle party fill in. Make him a dragoon!
