If they can rebuild cities in 5 years. I'm sure they can rebuild a few ferry's.

I couldn't say about GW2, I simply haven't played it, and I don't plan to... although I do remember it being touted as a seamless world (as opposed to GW1, which was very much not).So GW2 took a gigantic step backwards as well? From the way they described the zones, it sounded like they were still large enough and unique, but simply separated to get around some issues you have when you go seamless.
In fact, I can even think of any other new or recent MMOs that have been truly seemless. I would argue that, while not impossible, trying to go seemless would hold everything back. Particularly when dealing with creating new areas for patches and expansions. The time spent is not even worth it and if you just took out the seamless aspect you can cut time spent actually making the zones thoughtful and special.
Never understood seamless, I've yet to see a truly seamless MMO (which are still half heartily seamless) that was developed in a way that impressed me.
The argument that *primarily seamless* game worlds can not be "thoughtful or special" is a bit off the mark though, and subjective. Tera, for instance; that game is gorgeous and oozing character, every zone has a distinct theme. I also disagree that being seamless offers any impetus to developing new content... we're not talking about a mom & pop developer here, this is Square Enix... they have the resources. Also, an assets artist does not a world-builder make, there are different teams for every little specialized task. Artists can stylize to their hearts content while world builders toil away at a seamless bump-map. It's not an issue of opportunity cost.
There's no accounting for taste, and the true test will be actually getting to sit down and play the game. If I'm being asked though, there's nothing more disruptive to the essence of a massively-multiplayer persistent world than having to sit through a loading screen every few minutes.

Trying to think of something I will miss from 1.0.... can't think of anything that isn't in 2.0 that I'm worried about.

I will miss the sheer greenery of The Black Shroud. I love, love, love the look it has in ARR, but I hope there's SOME place within the Shroud that will still resemble the old with greenery that lush. I MIGHT miss the gathering game just a little.

Okay, I'll split this between bad and good. The only reasons I'll miss the bad is because that'll make 2.0 even sweeter.
The Bad
I'll miss failing multiple times with horrible parties trying to get Darklight from the broken pieces of development crap known as Cutter's Cry and Aurum Vale.
I'll miss blackmages being so goddamned overpowered, so much that people prefer blms over dragoons/monks 9 times out of 10.
I'll miss the focus on speedruns.
I'll miss the crappy drop rates from ifrit, garuda, and the mog king.
I'll miss giving up on even the idea of getting the relic weapons because I don't live in Japan.
I'll miss failing at Darnus hard mode because the developers decided to give him a 1hko attack under a minute in, making the fight the exact opposite of fun.... making it where the time limit makes us pick a specific set of classes.
I'll miss being able to slide down one large, 10-ft hill at one point, only to see a 5-inch cliff that I can't slide down.
I'll miss the fact that there is such a minute amount of content that the way to get a second class from 1-50 is to grind with a party instead of go through actual quest and story-based content.
I'll miss the long runs between one wasteland and the next, seeing the same cliff another 47 goddamned times. I'll miss getting a gobbue, then a chocobo, only to run between one wasteland and the next, but this time slightly faster.
I'll miss having 0 anime and then thinking, "Well, I'm going to not play the game for another 2 weeks or else I'll have a miserable time getting from place to place... it would be fine if the areas were varied or the music wasn't repetitive at points."
I'll miss the horrible, miserable days when levequests were the only content other than the main questline. And I'll especially miss the horrible fatigue system. I think I almost masturbated in public while squealing with glee when they removed that.
The Good
I'll miss riding the ferry between Vylbrand and Aldenard. It was a nice transition between adventuring, giving me time to make a sandwich and make some coffee... there being a thunderstorm outside while I'm inside the ship, sitting down and talking with other people who were traveling too. It was one of the very few immersive moments where I actually felt cozy. Drinking coffee or chocolate milk in real life while ingame, there was a thunderstorm outside and sharing stories with a group of adventurers while the ferry slowly made its way to the continent of Aldenard. I'm happy that they'll be adding something like that with airships too, being able to enjoy the views of New Eorzea with my friends.
I'll miss the Dalamud event. The entirety of it. However, I look forward to telling tales of my adventures years later to new players who heard of Dalamud but don't know what happened. Sitting around a campfire as I tell my tale, showing them the Dalamud Horn.
I'll miss the Dalamud-related adventures with Hildibrand. Hildibrand is by far, the best character to come out of Final Fantasy in years. He's the originality to shine out of the generic, uninspired, 1-dimensional characters that Squeenix has been shelling out since IX. (minus XI) Yes, he's only slightly original but it's still more original than Tidus and friends.
I'll miss Castrum Novum on launch day. It felt like an actual war, being surrounded by hundreds of other players, fighting our way to the tower for a common cause - to save the world from Dalamud's fall.

I'll miss blaming everything bad that happens on Tanaka, except I won't because I'm going to do it anyway.

Goodbye to the days of smacking animals from Lv1-50~ j/k
and Hello new lovely beautiful subligars my expectation for 5000 new subligars~~
