What if you have 2 different sets that both use your darklight body? Equip it with a macro? But why? Why make a gear system, that cant work w/o requiring multiples of an item?
Its like a car renting company, renting you a car, but making you push the car to the nearest gas station because they provide cars but not fuel.

I think gear-set tabs could work. Macros have their use too for equipping gear you don't want to duplicate.
Gear setting is s nice addition but I would reserve it to be job related.

But we will now only have 100 inventory. I'd rather not have to worry about equipment at ALL

its not restricted to changing your weapon. if you watch the live letter there are two tabs he clicks (and i think he mentions it around 33 min in) one changes his job or you can equip your weapon and change your job, then you can select your equipment set seperatly. as long as you arent limited in the amount of sets you can create or restricted by the way they equip (ex. if you have an empty slot in your set, will it empty the slot or not do anything) if its the second example then you can create a GLD,PUG,LNC set that shares common items then a specific set for class specific gear. is that making sense?

That's not bad. I thought it was by job. It will be "alright" that way but I still feel it would be more useful to allow gear to cross set. If I get into Alpha i'll test and give feedback.

As quoted by Yoshi in the live letter, you have 3 options for pieces that you use for different gear sets-

You either have to obtain two of the same items and equip them to each gear set.
    Or equip them manually
    Or use macro's to switch.

did you manage to catch the time stamp on the video where he said that?

EDIT Found it. In the live letter III it starts at 1:10:43

"Again, we want to hear what fans think about these methods (during the beta)"

I posted on this problem of having multiple pieces of DL awhile back in order to put it in multiple sets and it seemed like a good half the people just wanted to flame me and say "making a a macro is fine stop complaining" or "just equip manually everytime".

I think its the mentality of defending the team rather than making the system work the way that would be easiest and most logical for the players. I really am not sure why they don't want it made right the first time. Theres no reason for it not to work correctly when there is clearly an easy solution for one item on multiple sets.

Do not defend something thats broken or not optimally set up. The game MUST exceed expectations if its going to make a recovery and win people and reviewers alike when it launches. Try to help them succeed.

For me, I think it's a terrible idea. What if I want to use my INT+ head-piece on WHM? I need to change to BLM and un-equip and then change back? This is far more work than equip macros.
