....I am so confused by this topic.

My understanding is that DL won't be rewarded for speed runs only any more, because of the post I mentioned above. Speed runs are being changed so that they award achievements only.
I'm also under the impression that the current dungeons will be changing, in that they will be larger. My guess is that we may have multiple paths per dungeon that can't all be completed in a single run. If this is the case, then most likely DL gear will be split up in chests reached in these new parts of the dungeons.
I'd really like to see a dev response to this though, but I have my doubts we'll get that kind of detail before 2.0 actually hits.

Only the bodies are from speed runs, you can get the other pieces from normal runs. Not that I support speed runs at all, just clearing that up since someone posted to the contrary..
I'm currently on the AV leg of the relic quest so I would be very interested in an answer for this as well. I hope they just abolish speed runs altogether because it's a terrible idea.

personally, i hope they take out speed runs as needed for regular drops(including darklight), but leave it in place as needed for the parts for the relic quest. the darklight items have such a low drop rate it wouldn't change much of getting the dungeon completed to be able to get the chance at the darklight bodies. now on the relic quest you only need to do the 17 min run for that single drop that's an additional piece and doesn't have the super drop rate. i can understand that and believe it should stay.

Taken from here: http://www.rpgsite.net/interviews/39...oper-interviewRPG Site: Will speed runs be kept for version 2.0? It seems a lot of people on the forums are not in favor of that type of content, especially when having to go back to content you already played through before.
Yoshida: Speed runs will remain in the game (for achievement purposes), however, they will no longer be necessary to obtain equipment upgrades. Expect the reward system for these runs to change greatly.
It would only make sense since he said for achievement purpose only that it will no longer be a required part for the AF weapons. Not saying its true, just by the way its worded it seems like it won't be, no? He did not say "For achievement AND relic quest only" sooo..idk >.>
Personally if it is still a major part of the game I won't play anymore...I do not enjoy MMO where everything is "let me rush this as fast as possible so I can go stand in town and do nothing and be bored" heh xD

I think dungeon achieves are set to be removed at ARR launch because they will be changing greatly. They probably wont even look the same. Like.... be actual dungeons with different areas to explore instead of long curvy tunnels (like the current black shroud).
The main reason for the dungeon timer to begin with was because the server is just crappy and cant get that many people in at once, so they put time limits on them.

MMO's are a racing game, who ever gets a full set of new gear wins.speed runs suck this is a MMO, not a racing game. an instance should like its own little world. SE got one thing going in the right direction like how you have to go about getting all 5 chest at the boss, that kinda adds alittle puzzle element. now if they can only build on that.![]()
Legend tells of a legendary warrior whose kung fu skills were the stuff of legend. He was so deadly, in fact, that his enemies would go blind from over-exposure to pure awesomeness!

Oh, but I thought speed-runs were like AV, DD, CC? That's what I meant. Any of the AF quests that involve those zones I'm holding out on until later.AF has nothing to do with speed or even full raid runs.
Personally, I don't think speed runs are good for regular loot...but for something like the relic quest, which is basically showing you've got every aspect of the game down very well, I think speed runs are appropriate. Of course this is just based off the raids we have now, and I can't really speak for future ones.
EDIT: The only speed-run I think I've done was for a GC quest. I have not gotten towards the end-game because I'm taking my time playing the game and I'm trying to save/obtain gil.

You don't need to complete the raids for the AF quest. You just go in, find the box and you're good. None of them require a win, much less a speed run win.
