oh man I forgot about the add-on stuff.. I really hate that.. I hated it in the little bit of time I played WOW.. I want to play the game not start as scripting information on my screen constantly.. you get enough of that in the text box itself

Seconded, and agreed. Use it if you want, don't use it if you don't.

    * The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.

Right now it's not necessary, so if ARR boss fights are anything like 1.0, it'll be worthless. Simply create a boss specific chat log to see special ability warnings so you can run the hell out of the way

If fights get more complex, then I could definitely see it being used. It'll help those who get tunnel vision (which happens to be everyone ever, at least once).

Would I use a boss addon that forces me to switch my brain off? Short answer hell no!!

Long answer: Anyone who uses these (although they say they don't) need them, they struggle with difficult battle mechanics and want to look uber and want the game to be as easy as possible. I like a challenge in games, if that means I have to constantly fail content for 3 months before I complete it that's all just part of the ride, and I will feel I have earned the drops rather than cheat my way through.

The thrill is in the chase, not the result as a hunter would say.

my post is biased toward experience and logic. your post is biased toward petty personal opinion. prove me wrong with a structured, intelligible, non-trollish response. and make sure to actually include real, applicable examples and make direct reference to your experience with specific encounters in this game and/or one that uses mods.

the problem is you won't do this. you'll just dodge and deflect as usual, as you've done again this time, because you've DONE nothing and you don't know what you're talking about. you're just blathering on overly loudly with your opinion on every topic and issue without base, as usual.

your first comment: stupid. explain how it forces anything. explain how your post is remotely applicable in actual reality.

your second comment: stupid. i used mods and addons heavily in WoW, DBM being one of them, and yet i'm clearing content in this game faster than nearly anyone else. without mods. so try to explain that, kiddo. take your time.

Perhaps someone could remind me, but if the mod was the one that told you when the boss was casting a spell I'd go for it.

I like being able to see clearly what the monster is doing and without obvious tells (raising arms into air) or having specific chat on split chat boxes (Van Darnus) it can be frustrating. I dont like reading my battle log in battle, I'm not playing a text rpg (in my opinion).

I liked in original FF's they would clearly say what the monster was casting - obviously they had no need for a chat box though.

Boss clarity I'm all for (unless the attack was meant to be sneaky, then it ruins the immersion by calling it out obvious).

correct. you could already see what spells a mob was using with simple UI mods like quartz, just by having them targeted. all DBM really did was take that same idea and improve upon it, by giving raid warnings for major upcoming attacks and showing you casts/recasts/abilities of the bosses off to the side of your UI.

all the posts saying it made fights ezmode, or turned off your brain, or did things for you are just silly and only serve to underscore the fact that they never did any meaningful raiding in WoW and don't know what they're talking about. DBM can tell you there's fire all it wants- but that still doesn't help you get out of it. if i had a penny for every time DBM shouted DON'T MOVE during flame wreath, only for at least 2 people to move...

anyway, i digress. as others have said, it's true that sort of thing hasn't really been necessary in this game simply because the mechanics have been pretty simple. bosses in WoW required exponentially more multitasking and court vision, though, so it was a lot more helpful. if boss fights are still pretty simple in ARR, it won't be needed. but if they end up designing stuff harder than Rivenroad (hard), and i hope they do, boss-mod style addons will be pretty handy if executed well.

My first comment, tell me how do you need to think if someone make a mod that shouts as loud as your speakers will go "MOVE NOW!!!!!" or something like that, taking out any need to focus on the content and any need to think, you are being told what to do through out the fight, or in laymens terms you are having the addon hold your hands throughout anyone can buy an account and clock things if that kind of addon is made.

Your second comment is comparing 2 different play styles, 2 different games with completely different content, as people have said before we currently have no need for them because the fights are predictable, ifrit does 2 swipes move just in case, get the order for moogles down, survive memento and make sure to kite, chimera (as EN people always do it) BLM burn keep everyone out of range of AOEs and run the second he draws in (keep an eye on chatlog), Miser MNK burn, this content requires you to keep focused but will never require boss mods.

WoW, I will admit I have never played, I have no intention of playing it, but tell me what is the point of using mods that tell you everything about a fight and hold your hand throughout if they are not needed, throw your epeen around with uber gear first when in fact you never earned it because the mods were telling you what to do every time you needed to do something, your PC should don the gear, it did the work you just did what it told you to nothing more.

Tell me how many times did you beat this WoW content without the mods? Did you use them all the time? Did you in fact ever see content without them, if not you have to wonder.

Mostly what DBM type mods do is makes important stuff in the chat logs bigger and louder, almost puts you at a disadvantage not to use it if someone made it.
