I like being able to see clearly what the monster is doing and without obvious tells (raising arms into air) or having specific chat on split chat boxes (Van Darnus) it can be frustrating. I dont like reading my battle log in battle, I'm not playing a text rpg (in my opinion).

I liked in original FF's they would clearly say what the monster was casting - obviously they had no need for a chat box though.

Boss clarity I'm all for.
correct. you could already see what spells a mob was using with simple UI mods like quartz, just by having them targeted. all DBM really did was take that same idea and improve upon it, by giving raid warnings for major upcoming attacks and showing you casts/recasts/abilities of the bosses off to the side of your UI.

all the posts saying it made fights ezmode, or turned off your brain, or did things for you are just silly and only serve to underscore the fact that they never did any meaningful raiding in WoW and don't know what they're talking about. DBM can tell you there's fire all it wants- but that still doesn't help you get out of it. if i had a penny for every time DBM shouted DON'T MOVE during flame wreath, only for at least 2 people to move...

anyway, i digress. as others have said, it's true that sort of thing hasn't really been necessary in this game simply because the mechanics have been pretty simple. bosses in WoW required exponentially more multitasking and court vision, though, so it was a lot more helpful. if boss fights are still pretty simple in ARR, it won't be needed. but if they end up designing stuff harder than Rivenroad (hard), and i hope they do, boss-mod style addons will be pretty handy if executed well.
