I think you're reading into it a little too much.
I raised my eyebrow a bit at this, but I don't think it means much. I hope he gets well and has the best of luck with the rest of his career.“I helped mold FINAL FANTASY XI into one of the best MMO formats on the market, and I wanted to respect the wishes of the team as much as possible when they wanted to make something different for FFXIV, so I tried my best not to meddle too much with development. In the end they weren’t able to realize what they were aiming for, which is a shame, but I wish them the best of luck with the reboot.”
Just being realistic, you don't realize how many times during alpha and beta of this game we voiced our concerns to the Dev team. With no responses and everyone saying "Oh it's just beta, this will be amazing once launch". Yeah never again will that happen especially for those that stuck through this from the beginning. If those comments were quoted and translated correctly it's exactly like it sounds. The voice of an arrogant person who has too much pride in his work and can't get over the fact that hey you know, maybe I made a mistake here and there and would like to start listening a little to the concerns of the playerbase since they are paying for my bills.
You think he wrote that apology letter himself? I doubt it, IMO that was all PR and to save face.
I realize this, however, this is a different team being led by a different person with a different mindset about the community.Just being realistic, you don't realize how many times during alpha and beta of this game we voiced our concerns to the Dev team. Oh I know, that was directed at Gramul. Don't get me wrong I'm very excited for 2.0 even after seeing that aweful footage of PS3 or whatever. Need to pretend like that never happened to keep staying optimistic. But this time while I'm excited I'm going in with low expectations. I want this game to succeed just like everyone else but my concerns have always been grounded.
I'm not sure what giving Tanaka more time to work on FFXIV would have done. It's two years later and game still isn't fun.
