"I for one am never touching anything he is involved in again"...aren't you basing that on the past..which I'm assuming you mean because of bad FFXI and FFXIV experiences?
Just sayin, he's not the one solely to place blame on when he's done so much more right than wrong lol. The mere fact he realizes mobile gaming is more of the in-thing now kind of proves he's not exactly behind on the times.
You people still hating on tanaka? like really? they give him a shit engine crystal tool with shit servers. I'm sure he ask for more time i think i remember reading he said he needed more time but they give him none.
Sure overall his way of thinking would not work in today MMO that why we have Yoshi-p i still think tanaka giving few ideas too FFXIV would have made the game awesome. There a lot of interviews from tanaka and his idea i really enjoy a lot and wish yoshi-p follow on a few but he pretty much made ffxiv his own which is ok i like both version.
They lost Hironobu Sakaguch now they lost Tanaka.
FFXIV is becoming a great game but overall i hope it does not become a wow-clone just to please everyone.

As awful as 1.0 release was you can't blame an entire game on one person
I always have and always will defend Tanaka when it comes to XIV. He was a scapegoat for the company and it was wrong for SE to abuse him in that fashion after all his years in service to them.
However, that interview makes me cringe because basically it is Tanaka saying "Don't look at me for why XIV went wrong because look at XI. I'm good! It was the team who made that trashy XIV game. I didn't want to meddle and force their hands with anything."
Well... sorry Tanaka. It was your job to oversee and direct the project. Ultimately, you share the blame because you were the guy who made the decisions.
Sure you can! He did everything from the concept to the music. He did every single line of code himself in 3 years flat. Least that's the idea you get when people start hating on him. Most game developers let their team do what they want within guidelines because you're more likely to get a better work environment if people are having fun developing..hell this is true for most business careers.
Translation: I'm not the one to blame. He may oversee it but guess who oversees him and every other department? Tanaka himself said XIV wasn't ready (overseeing) but highers up felt otherwise.I always have and always will defend Tanaka when it comes to XIV. He was a scapegoat for the company and it was wrong for SE to abuse him in that fashion after all his years in service to them.

Tanaka was working with a shit engine crystal tools and the dev team wanting to do things there way i bet and CEO/stockholder i bet want the game to be release early he said no he need more time and i bet you anything they said no sorry. i feel sorry for tanaka he became a scapegoat for the company as you said. Who was the scapegoat for there shit ass FF13 game? if two shit game came out who is really to blame? lolI always have and always will defend Tanaka when it comes to XIV. I hope he enjoys it there. I hope they treat him right.
They clearly had a fresh concept in mind when developing this game. It's a shame they never got to finish it before it was rushed out the door. If it had more content and variety, with less focus on RMT prevention that screws over regular customers, I could easily see it being a great game. But I'm still interested in ARR for now, so we'll see how things roll.
