    Hi Ikkenoe,

Did you read the OP completely?

How is doing a partial compensation for latency (adding, say, 0.15 seconds) to a window of attack "completely alienating" the hardcore playerbase?

Again, this is for Final Fantasy, NOT Street Fighter V.

If you truly believe that the future of Final Fantasy XIV 2.0 involves TWITCH Reactions and Lightning Fast Responses where your enjoyment of a challenge is ruined by making a window to Run Away (from, say Ifrit's Cracks) 0.15 SECONDS longer than it was tuned for currently, then I don't know what to say.

You would hope that Yoshida-san and Dev Team want to provide the majority of challenges that *aren't* merely based on instant Reaction Times and has to do with many more facets (as noted above).

I think they just need to fix the lag and keep the servers the way they are.

What I believe is that you have no knowledge regarding how latency can affect gameplay, and that it's not as easy as adding X ms to boss mechanics in order to compensate effects of latency.

The annoyance induced by latency isn't linear. Someone having 300ms won't be "twice more annoyed" than someone having 150ms. It's exponential.

Even if mechanics window are 0.5s longer, players with 300ms vs someone with 50ms will still get screwed. When the gameplay is fast paced (in before comparison with XI, no that's not fast paced), having a high latency makes it really hard to play properly. Ability lag combined with a low GCD make the gameplay experience horrible.

I experienced SWTOR or Rift couple of times with 300ms+ latency (had issue on my line so my latency was horrible), and I purely and simply could not raid. It wasn't about me needing an extra 270ms to react to mechanics (~30ms is my normal ping), it was more like playing a music game where notes are out of sync with the music.

To take your SF exemple, it would be like having a 15 frame delay when playing. Even if you increase all execution timing window by 15 frames, you will still suck badly.

Finally, boss mechanics aren't the only one thing. Healing/interacting with other players is important as well and there is no timing window for that. When you need to use a cooldown quickly on someone or that someone will die, you just need to do it "ASAP".

ASAP + latency can mean wiping. But again to realize that, you need to understand what is raiding. And it seems that Yoshida has an idea of what raiding is and how latency can terribly affects a raid performance.

Right exactly, but in order to "play" with them, you need to be on the "same data center and the same server within that Data center"
Um, no. This is false. You are not locked to any one data center. You can choose to play on any server, located within any data center, at any time (you'll have to make a character for each of course)

People don't seem to understand what a data center actually is.

A data center is just a secure facility that houses server equipment. It's not some kind of impenetrable barrier that locks you into your region.

Whats funny is I set my region to all in Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition. So I can fight people from around the world since people seem to have very different play styles. Anyways the game doesn't even lag that bad if I get someone from Japan, Canada, England, Mexico ect.

Not locked, but you can only choose one data center and you can only play with people within the people that play on that data center.

I know your not "locked" into a Region, BUT if you choose NA Data center, then you can only play with the people in NA.

What you telling me is if I choose NA ( Which I am because I'm not dealing with lag) then I will still be able to play "with" the people that are using the Japan Data Center?

Example: Me= NA Data Center + Someone else= JP Data Center= "Global" still? Because if this is not what your saying, then people can only play within the data center they are in.

    Umm, no.

You don't choose a data center. You choose a server. There is no difference between playing on a different data center and playing on a different server

    Data center1
    -server1
    -server2
    -server3
    Data center2
    -server4
    -server5
You don't pick the data center, you pick the server. That server is physically located at a certain data center, yes. The only difference between server 3 and server 4 is how good your ping is going to be. You can still make characters on all 5 servers, and play on any one of them at any time.

What you telling me is if I choose NA ( Which I am because I'm not dealing with lag) then I will still be able to play "with" the people that are using the Japan Data Center?
Yes. Again. you don't choose a data center. You choose a server. You are not locked out of playing on a JP server if you first picked an NA server.

What if you only want to make only 1 Character? ( I'm not really a Muti-character user much).

Then you can only play on one server. Any server you want, but only one. However, as I said, you can play on any server at any time as long as you create a character on that server.

Apparently, the content finder works across all servers (meaning there is cross-server play for whatever content uses the content finder). you can encounter players from other servers, and you can choose specific languages you'd like to play with. If you really want to play with JPs or german or french players really badly, you can do so via the content finder.

That being said, if you have friends from different regions, you can all agree to play on the same server and you'll be able to play like you did before. However, post 2.0 release, unless something changes, all current players will remain on the server they're on now. They'll probably offer server transfers at this time, but if you want to keep all your current friends, just don't move and tell your friends not to move.
