The reason they let you choose which server closest to you is to probably give you better options. Like my router connects to San Francisco and does ok but I can chose Chicago server and I get better speeds. (Live in Kansas). So its probably to give you better latency but also like to give you the choice if you like some latency for a challenge you can stick with overseas server. I think its merely about choices.

I dont know how Devs can say something that seems pretty clear and ppl can come up with about 10 different versions of what was said. Makes me wonder the level of reading comprehension.

It's really rare to see a Japanese player speak Japanese in English characters in this game, at least from my experience.

EDIT: It is an issue for every different language, but the problem is more prevalent with Japanese as it is not that common for them to speak English French German and Spanish as apposed to people who live in Europe where multi-lingualism is pretty common.
PS3 players can't have google translate on their phones, or they can't have a laptop sat near them to look things up, is PS3 really that much of a limitation.

No I wasn't aware. The point is moot though as some people run the ps3 on the same screen they run their computers on, and some people don't have smart phones. What your telling me is that the auto translation is fine as it is and if you don't intend on buying a smart phone for the sole purpose of fumbling through dozens of alien squiggle characters, then you may as well not play the game.

EDIT: I know we have our differences but you are realllllly stretching to make a counter-argument against me right now.

No I'm not, I'm just pointing out the holes in your argument. It's full of them.

Auto translation is far from perfect and it never will be due to the massive differences in how we speak our languages. It's hard to explain to someone not versed in Japanese at all but if you were to litteraly translate every word in Japanese you come up with the same garbledegook that Google translate throws out at you.

Japanese can be very situationally and context sensative for a language, it doesn't follow the same rules that english adheres too making translation beyond a few words difficult at best. Even the best stringed together chain of auto translated words often looks like gibberish to Japanese players because the words in the dictionary can usually mean a few different things to them on the other side.

I think SE has put towards a massive effort allready into the auto translation dictionary and I doubt they will stop there they add new terms often and try to make basic communication between language barriers around the world easier. But it will never be possible to do more than just the basics.

So, just letting you know that SE hasn't totally flopped on the whole auto-translation thing, they put in a hell of alot more effort than most companies do...wich is none.
