Ring Contest Ended early?? -[Need rep response]

While I do see that this as a legitimate issue with posting a typo on a contest deadline, I can't help feeling a little bit of Schadenfreude;

You people have had over 3 weeks to do this, and you're complaining about missing the deadline by 24 hours? Why do you wait till the last minute?

Seriously lol. This event went on so long and I'm sorry to say, not even amateur artists take longer than a few days to design a RING, you're not making elaborate 3D model characters to show it off, no one should be complaining at this point to be honest. I know the annoyances of something like this because it happens in my work, but I'm usually given 4-5 weeks to do something and if I waited till last minute and they decide, mistake or not:

"Oh hey, it's due tomorrow, forget about the additional week ^^"

I can't complain if I waited till last minute to do it. So they'll probably clarify but think about how long we've had to work on a RING to submit.

Thing is even if they had given a month for entry's this would still happen. People be procrastinating.

Still, the 'procrastination argument' is fallacious and it is entirely irreverent to this issue.

The assumed motivations of individual contestants should have no bearing on whether or not SE is obliged to stick to the time they posted for the contest (and never updated, even after the contest was 'closed').

But to address the point: There are many valid reasons people will not submit entries until the last minute: from refining/perfecting work, to managing other schedules, to doing research, and more. It isn't up to SE or anyone else to pull the rug out from under people based on specious assumptions about their motivations.

SE posted a time, never corrected it once (in the same 3 weeks BTW), and they need to honor it.

This is totally Off-Topic, but i would like to say some words to your Ring.

First.. its really a great 3D-Model, light and shadows are choose wisely, the Details are brilliant, the Jewel itself also looks great. To say it short: Thats some epic piece of work and it looks really awesome.

BUT.. honestly i dont think this ring will be in the Top 10 and here is why: Its a Ring for a Game.. even if FFXIV is known for high graphics, there is now way this ring could be shown in the Game that way. Most of the Details would vanish by making it into an Ingame-Item, which would make it an ordinary ring with a jewel on it. So it would just look like every single Gemstone-Ring, which have placed in the Game by now.

Seriously.. dont get me wrong at all.. i seriously like that Ring and i love the look and style of it, but thats far ahead of what SE could actually implement in the Game. Even if the Ring would come into Top10 and would be choosen by the Community, it would lose all its awesome Details, which would be a shame... dont you think?

Good points all.

We can assume that the SE artists will do their own renditions of the winning rings, so I'm not too worried about some details getting lost.

This was just my approach to the theme and stats I had envisioned.

I support this and even though I had no idea and nothing but a creative block to design a ring, a lot of good entries made it on time because they didn't procrastinate. Well it's a fine and dandy to point the finger at SE for not keeping their conctest schedule accurate (by 24 hours)but look at yourselves first for being "sorry" and not "safe". You didn't have to be a good artist, just have a good design!

Just because mine was last minute doesn't mean everyone else's was. You've never worked on a major art project have you? 3 weeks seems like a lot of time, and it is for most people, but there those of us (such as myself had I not lost my damned copy of photoshop to reformatting my computer ><) who like to take our sweet time and work out every detail to perfection, until we truly feel satisfied with it and it really shows in some of those high res CG images that were submitted.

The kind of image I wanted to do would have easily taken a week or so, maybe longer but I had to settle for what amounted to sketch concept art.
