As for the negativity, the same can be said for Motomu Toriyama (FFX-XIII-3's director) and Tanaka (FFXI and some of the offline ones) People hold a huge negativity toward these people because they do 1 thing wrong and overlook their major successes (Final Fantasy X AND XI respectively) and somehow consider these people "Dumb" and "Unreliable" now because of these flops.

Now I ask the community this:

"Would you Subject Yoshida and whateverthenewguy'snameis, to the same treatment you all give to Tanaka and Toriyama if they were to make a simple mistake with a FF title?"

I believe it was Phrozen Sensei in an older thread that made a post calling you detective Barnivere because you apparently researched someone's botting history or something along that line. I'm using it in this case as a joke considering a detective is generally good at researching and collecting information but your post made it seem like you haven't left this bubble called the XIV forums and seen the praise for yourself all over the place.

I am going to say a few things:

Developing a successful MMO now in days has less to do with your experience having developed an MMO in the past and more to do with knowing your target audience and knowing what works and doesn't work. Yoshi-P had little experience other then playing different MMOs and he is already doing a better job then Tanaka. What's that say?

Proof of this has one name: Tanaka. He was in charge of FFXI for years there is NO reason at allthis game should have failed so bad at launch. It was in development for years, so no excuses. Following the logic of "mmo development experience" It just isn't a fact. He did a terrible job and didn't know his target audience well enough to make what they wanted to see.

Now I don't know about this new assistant director so long as he doesn't have the final say in choices being made and just helps guide the path it should be alright.

MMOs now in days are all about low member content before endgame and even then endgame usually is under 15 people except in the most extreme and hardest content. Then it can be between 20 and 30 usually.

Don't agree with that, that's fine but I know plenty of people that would rather not do a new form of dynamis and would rather run with a 4 person group. Its how many MMOs have over 600,000 subscribers yet if you put FFXI and FFXIV together I highly doubt you'll get half of that.

What we should know is where he stands on many issues having to deal with MMOs as a whole.

Actually Tanaka may be decent at OFFLINE games which is where he should have stayed, but as an MMO developer he was sub-par and laughable at best.

He never paid attention to the community, never tried to find what the players wanted in the game, he very rarely even attempted to balance jobs period. Also it took him how many years to put moogles in Selbina in FFXI? That alone is a third-month release kinda thing not a 5th-6th year update when almost no one leveled in that area anymore.

What people forget, it seems is; Tanaka wasn't the ONLY person that made earlier SE games, he was a member of a team and the member of a team is only as good as their team. Tanaka may not have been the best, but he wasn't the worst.

I do think Tanaka should have stayed with offline games since he refused to accept what the community wanted.

I do however hope this new assistant director knows what the MMO community wants rather then turn into another Tanaka. That is the last thing we need.
