Welcome the new Assistant Director for FFXIV: ARR

Neat, someone else with no MMO experience. I can see how a couple Nintendo DS titles really can relate well to the world of MMO development for the PC and PS3.

Yeah because Yoshida had a world of experience in developing MMOs in the first place, right? No, he didn't.

But that's why he's currently one of the most revered people in the entire game industry when it comes to MMOs now, right? Yeah, he is. He managed to pull off something unheard of, and both fans and haters of XIV alike are admiring his competence for it.

You don't have to have experience making something to be good at it. Yoshida plays MMOs, this guy probably does too. The fact that he made several successful games already just adds to the mix.

This is the major point. Yoshida's clean approach to the community and the game have done a lot to earn him the respect of this community, but the fact that he's played MMOs means he knows the basics as a player as well as what he knows as a creator. I think that's what has helped things run as smoothly as they did.

Well, that and he's not prone to coming here and arguing with players and telling them to shut up for not thinking like he does.

As Gramul said, good. They're less grindy than Ys games at certain points so I don't see anything bad.

That is purely an opinion thing.
For me, the EO series got better the farther he got from the game. Still grindy, given that is what dungeon crawlers are about, but far, far better done and less 'idiot' grind and more 'fun' grind, but then again: Opinions.

Love the EO series. Job selection in that game is very good too. And I love the art style, Samurai's look awesome in that game. Very good old school dungeon crawler type experience. And very hard.

Tanaka had ALOT more experience than this new fellow (Given that he's the father of the most profitable FF title ever in the series and is still earning big bucks after a decade))

Yeah before you reply to this post take a little detour to the scary realm known as the internet and view some of the top game review sites such as Destructoid and Kotaku (yeah Kotaku) or pretty much any other review site praising ARR. Perhaps you didn't notice that not only was ARR nominated for best PC game at Gamescom it beat The Last of Us on a community choice award by over 3x the score. All over the place comments and reviews praise Yoshida as being an incredibly competent director in the MMO business.

Those are not the Final Fantasy XIV forums, and those places previously poked fun of XIV at every opportunity up until now.

Yeah top gaming sites like kotaku Jajajaja! Funny how before they even said anything remotely good about FFXIV, everybody around here used to throw kotaku under the bus... And really it beat the last of us.... Did it beat GW2 ???
