Tanking seems to be the exception due to the viability of darklight & miltia gear.

But for others, its not quite that way.

For instance, the best BLM setup is 8-9/12 gear crafted. How is that balanced?

That's 1 Class. Most DL is BiS for all jobs >.>.

BRD - 7/12 slots crafted.

Most of the other classes stand at about 50% crafted with 20% GC 30% drops.

Again, a vague number, but it is clear that the ratio is still skewed to work towards crafters.

I'm mostly against the system because I play BLM/BRD/WHM and probabally am getting screwed the most by this system.
