TERA doesn't have what it takes to get the average FF player interested about the game.
But at least it is a better candidate than...Portal 2.

we got nothing to worry about from tera. I saw vids of it. It looks like a combo of every mmo out atm ffxi included. It looks bland and a "see it". Like the mage type has a magic wheel for asking which is similar top what Aion has. Some of the animation make it look like your watching a cheap 3d cartoon. Like they had this flubber tree giant and the scor fighting it got stars when it stunned her. The characters look like they from Aion.
Online FFs don't have what it takes to get the average FF player interested in them either, to be fair.
(That's just a random article, but I'm sure you've seen all the backslash from "average FF fans" after an online title was announced).

I actually thought TERA looked really nice. The combat actually shows what a proper non-auto attack system can be like. And the animations are over the top and flashy, but I like that. Sure beats our almost non-existant animations in FFXIV.
I intend to stay here but I don't think it would hurt for SE to keep a close eye on TERA and see which of their systems actually do work. They could even learn something. *shrugs*

I think the state of the game right now is dire. I run a linkshell and I've noticed a lot of people saying I'm giving the game a break until the PS3 release. The servers seem really quiet and I think Yoshis honeymoon period is over, it is time for us to see some forward moving patches.
What has been achieved for far is the wards and targetting but these are only to a certain degree. The wards are nearly finished in my opinion, I would like the option of being able to request an item from another cities ward. I think this would get around the limitations of the number of retainers you can have in a ward and allowing people to get their wares viewed in the barely used cities of Limsa and Gridania. Also can the wards not crash every other day please! As for the targetting I do not know, it still feels very stiff, I think there should only be a combat and non combat mode. In combat mode you select an enemy and then you right or left to cycle through, up and down to cycle through party members. Also there should be a ranged equation in there, I am sick of targetting a mob a good 100 yarms away while my party is getting murdered by the mob right in front of me. This brings me into the final part of the combat targetting once a group of mobs have been claimed, they should be preferentially targetted by the system. Having your enemy targetting, target the mob that is unclaimed just makes me cry. As for targetting with a mouse sorry I stopped using keyboard and mouse in November so I will not comment. In conclusion I think these two area have greatly improved, but this is a race against time, I am not sure whether people who have left the game will come back, there is always new options being released.
as for what needs to be improved in the game, I think before content, there is the battle system, the class system and the gear. The new battle system is en route so I will not discuss this and I am going to do a class thread of my own, so maybe you will give that a read. Finally my problem with gear is that some classes have several types and others have hardly any. Mages best gloves are bowyers bracers, but they add nothing to my mage class but extra elements resistance. I would like to see a lot of gear rethought, in respect to who it favours and what extra stat bonuses it should give.

I can definately agree about the gear availability to mages. Conjurers have very slim pickings while Thaumaturges have a very wide selection of gear. They can wear most of the gear Conjurer can but also have access to Actons and Mitts which Conj can't wear.

Yup. The game is in Alpha State. And what? Right now, is like If you are being a beta tester for the game, just that SE won't delete your character.
All what you are doing now will count when the game will be good enough to start paying for it. After all, is a good looking game, with A LOT of fails in it, but is free, and with time, it will kick some asses.
I don't see the problem If the game is not as good as it had to be. You are not paying to play. Is this just because is called "Final Fantasy"??
Would you say the same If it was called "Swords and Adventurers XIV"??
Enjoy the game, and think in what you can post to improve it.
I'm The First and The Last...
I'm Alpha and Omega...
I'm the Beginning...and The End..
Really? This chart pretty much tells us that around 50% of Japanese Final Fantasy players that bought XIII have tried the game out. For a game tailored for hardcore audience, that is pretty impressive. Millions and millions of players from Japan alone were interested in the game, even with the way it was. From those days, MMORPG's (and online gaming in general) have become even more popular and accepted as a genre.Online FFs don't have what it takes to get the average FF player interested in them either, to be fair.

If you thought I meant that Online FF's have as much appeal as offline FF's that was not the case, and it's not really even realistic. The audience is there however and all SE has to do is to lure them in. TERA won't be able to do that, you can be sure of it.
Here's the purchase intent index from few weeks ago:

These people don't give a fuck about TERA. They want to play an FF MMORPG. They are looking for what you can get from an FF game. And no, gameplay is not the first priority for them. That is not the appeal of an FF game (nor an MMORPG, to be quite frank). Good audiovisuals, interesting premise, spectacular story, shit to do. They don't want a generic experience. Even if this game sucks right now, it has never lacked style or character. The lore is interesting and the story has promise.
They may not beat TERA in gameplay, but neither can a single player FF. It is simply not that important.

Don't let the door hit your ass on the way out I guess?
Couldn't have said it better my self. I mean your post basically says to me fan disguised as a troll.. Right now the focus should not be on the games current state put your efforts into to making a constructive suggestion of improvement.. or valid argument.. SE screwed up get over it. Seriously dude just go play WoW or something just go
You have 1,257 posts... and you DON'T even play the game?...here is how I see it, least you guys can actually play the game. Anyone waiting ps3 or bought the game and it was unable to install can't.
as another saying goes its better to have loved and loss then to never had loved at all. I can't play the game and I own it. Got it day CE came out :/
consider yourself lucky to be able to play the game at all.
Anyways, what are people expecting for content? I highly doubt anything worthwhile is coming this month, copypasta'd easter egg event won't even make a blip on the radar. At least they aren't charging us!
