The fundamental of gaming are in every game in some shape or form to auto attack or button bashing to grinding on monster for exp or questing experience or mixture of the two its all matter on how the game designer implements it! Can any of you can come up with a different way of gaming that doesn't include the stuff mention to revolutionized gaming please feel free to come up with an idea that doesn't involve those. Certain feature will always play a key role in any game those features are copied in some form to every game you've ever played so you can't really get away from it. The difference is what that particular game bring to the gamer is the unique enrich story plots of the title, unique character designs, the land which you walk on shoot maybe even float over ect!

The crying I've been seeing for the last year about the "threat" of this game borrowing from WoW, bringing XI into the conversation as the (rose-colored) pinnacle of MMO while neglecting to mention that XI copied from Everquest, begs to differ.

    * The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.

Well, exactly. You just validated my point; that WoW was an evolution of existing concepts. FFXIV on the other hand is regressing back 10 years instead of pushing forward.

I don't see why anyone has to relate FFXIV to WoW anyways. Its hard to be original enough as it is, and I do think that FFXIV has that originality down quite a lot. There are some people that have never played WoW and never will, and those people do not need to hear how this game is supposedly a duplicate.

I have played WoW and it is a good enough game to play until level 30 and get bored. However, I have also played Perfect World, which seems to use the same engine as WoW and almost exactly the same level scale, yet, I found the environments and the community more to my liking. Though, none of this should conflict with FFXIV and how I enjoy playing it, no matter if it is a WoW clone or not, I find the artwork to be much better on the eyes, the music, epic, the community, much more helpful. (That is until PvP comes out then I guess people will become more selfish and less helpful, as they don't like competition)

There are things that can make or break 2.0, but it is just not worth the speculation at this point in time. This game ha already tried to be unique, and it didn't work out too well. Though, something inside me really hates the fact that there were some things they could have done to keep the uniqueness and build on top of that to get the game up to speed.

Honestly if they are bringing it up to "standard" mmo specs then that's fine. I haven't really seen any mmo lately break the mold and even guildwars 2 is no exception because Anet has simply taken concepts from all over the show (like wow did) and molded them into the game with a evolution on the concepts they found appealing.

Action combat, dodging, teleporting, lobby pvp, public quests, dye systems, vanity systems, WvWvW (RvRvR DAoC), voice acting, weapon based skills, underwater combat, combination attacks between classes, siege warfare, etc, etc, etc have all been done in various mmorpgs in different forms.

I think the only thing they haven't taken from other mmorpgs in concept form would be the jumping puzzles which are really damn good addition to the genre from what I've experienced.

Building on the standards which are in every mmo these days is a must. You really need those core elements that people are accustomed to getting in mmorpgs like mail systems, auction houses, bank storage, flexible character control, standardize billing systems (one payment, x character slots), instanced content, open world content, raids, dugneons, blah blah blah blah blah.

People seem to think the "standard" of a game like world of warcraft is bad, it's not! That game love it or hate it really did things right in showing that when things are put into a game properly then the game simply works great. And I'm not saying it hasn't done many things wrong but those things came down to the design of the expanded design on the game and lets face it blizzard is a master of imitation, not originality.

why don't you all stop complaining for no reason and see what the game actually is like in ARR because all you are doing is speculating what it will be and not actually experiencing the game. do everyone a favor and break your fingers and go away, because this "it's a clone of such and such" is really getting old specially since the new version hasn't even been released yet to judge.

You're in General Discussion my friend. There's nothing but complaining around here.
