There is no point in SE Advertising FFXIV:ARR untill 1 month or so untill its release, if they advertise it now they'll have people looking it up online, buying the current FFXIV then bitching about it, not good for business.

That's actually a good point, because lets face it people tend to be stupid when it comes to buying products. I don't mean stupid like they buy everything because it looks pretty, but stupid like they don't research what it is they're buying. Take the FF11 PS2 release, people bought those up like hotcakes thinking there was a PS2 in the box along with the product, but they didn't bother themselves to read the info on the box or notice that the $50-$70 sounded too good to be true. It became such a problem all the stores I ever went too literally had to take a sharpie and mark on it that there was not a PS2 with it.

In the same sense it would be bad to advertise to the public about ARR outside of the core followers who are going to be watching information about this like a hawk anyways (hence kills the need to really advertise for now) until near the PS3 release. To do it now might cause more negative backlash if every joe schmoe goes and picks up a copy of FFXIV today only to have the game shut down on them for Alpha / Beta Testing a month or two later, or if development delays causes the launch to be pushed back another month or two.

The recent article on it actually was well written, so I guess I was wrong. Fairly happy to be wrong in this case.

The comments aren't bad either. For every poster that mindlessly goes "lololol FFXIV that's not dead?" there is an actual XIV player talking about the improvements in the game.

I think at this point it would be nice if they could put out some sort of Gameplay trailer. I mean, we can make epic in game videos, they can put one together now. But perhaps you are right, too soon?
