Check Point, PATV's gaming news program, mentions FFXIV

anybody in their right mind would know that most of checkpoint is just gaming satire with like 5% news if any. take whatever they say with a grain of salt. it's almost like getting bent out of shape about Zero Punctuation (if you don't know what that is google it)

in short, Penny Arcade isn't out to get Final Fantasy XIV. Square-Enix always gets mad publicity at PAX (Penny Arcade Expo), and I'll bet anything that there will be some sort of XIV promotion there this year. I'll be there, I'll let you know how it turns out lol.

It shouldn't be assumed that the CGI trailers are the end all be all of their marketing. Would anyone actually have been HAPPIER had we not gotten them? It was nice to at least get a glimpse of what's coming in the new game. SE chose to reserve in-game footage for Gamescon. What's the big deal?

Not as bad as the last time they mentioned FFXIV. I mean it's what pretty much everyone has been saying for weeks now. Yeah we get it, people want gameplay footage. That's coming soon, just need to be patient. Once we get it they'll have to find something else to complain about.

The problem is most people aren't patient enough to wait on a game they have been waiting 2 years for, and already paid for. Frankly I can never blame them for blasting this game, but I hope they give it another chance. I love it of course

You think that two preview trailers - CGI, with the first being horrible and the second being nothing short of amazing, personally - that are currently on nothing more than a TEASER SITE is SE's fully-planned-out marketing scheme? You should eat your own words, rofl.

Right now, what we know is this - Gamescom is coming, and SE is revealing FFXIV: ARR on-stage in front of a massive crowd, where Yoshida is going to guide them through a long in-game demonstration. They've already confirmed that they're going to be showing in-game footage of ARR at Gamescom this year alongside their other games. At that point, the 'flood of information all summer long' will begin, and that could be anything. News, interviews, more videos, screenshots, or the whole nine yards.

Also, I'm pretty sure we have yet to see this year's TGS, where they'll probably release even more information, and give more future players the chance to sign up for alpha, or beta, or whatever.

The point is that none of us, I repeat NONE of us know the full extent of SE's marketing scheme for this game. So don't act like a know-it-all and put down a fan of the game because you think you can see the future.

Until Gamescom happens / a in-game footage gameplay trailer is released, SE deserve criticism. I'm saying that person's view that Penny Arcade are deliberately not hyping the game / the plan for features in 2.0 because of some agenda against SE is ridiculous. No future seeing, no anything. I'm not the one saying "ah well they're doing this, that, this", the other guy was. It doesn't take any futureseeing or any kind of genius to know that if SE release a trailer based on purely cinematic effect and say "Buy it!" which by the way, is the reason trailers exist they deserve criticism.

Penny Arcade's criticism was lukewarm, they'll get way worse from other sources until they release a trailer showing gameplay. Get down off your high horse and learn to read posts before you attempt to whiteknight.

Checkpoint being expected to say nice things? Dude, this is Checkpoint. It's there to be amusing, have a few jokes, say a bit of criticism (generally deserved) and generally make a point when they feel a point needs to be made. They are NOT there to be heavily informative, nor are they there to rave on about how great a game is. If you expected anything more than what they gave, you probably don't watch Checkpoint very often.

I like Checkpoint. Haters gonna hate, though, and bitchers gonna bitch. Personally, I was delighted that they are giving FFXIV publicity, because it's far better for them to say what they said than to say nothing at all.

I dunno, that was pretty light hearted. But I gotta agree, we know SE can do pretty cinematics. We're all just waiting for the gameplay footage.

Relax, people, where's your sense of humor? As many have pointed out, this is specifically a comedic take on news. The guy spoke positively about the changes coming, saying it was a new, ground up engine, and then lamenting the fact that the trailer was merely CGI.

Joke explainer time! See, we know SE can do CGI, and we never had issues with the CG in the original vanilla. The trailer, then, addresses an issue nobody had, and a joke is made of it.

Whether you find it funny or not, there's really nothing rant-worthy here. Relax, people, smile once in a while!

Did you even watch the segment? They did not rip on the game. Repeat: They did not rip on the game.

The only thing I got out of the clip was they're trying to send SE the message that they cannot market ARR with cutscenes. That's it, that's all.

Insulting people as if PA and anyone who agrees with them thinks XIV is the absolute worst experience they've ever had, including the time they got their tongue stuck to the flagpole, suggests you didn't even watch the video.

Please take a few deep breaths and get some perspective.
