In a classical turn-based system, only one character may act at a time; all other characters remain still, with a few exceptions that may involve the use of special abilities.
In a turn-based game I would have unlimited time to decide my next action before the enemy hit me. I don't know about you but when I'm fighting monsters in this game, they fight back whether I do something or not.

Emphasized that for relevancy. I guess FF 4-9 aren't turn based then, either?

Turn-based means that people and monsters take turns fighting. 4-9 have an active time battle (ATB) system. By your definition every RPG would be turn-based.

Regardless, it's derived from the turn based system. To completely knock it out of the genre is rather extreme, even if it is a more action-oriented approach.

Yes, but it's not completely turn-based, which is what I was responding to.

    I didn't realize TURN-based required so much definition. But then Nascar is turn based too...Hrmm, so confusing ><;

It's funny hearing people complain about animation lock and then mention TERA as a better example of fluid combat considering every action in TERA has an animation lock too. Compared to GW2 which clearly doesn't have any kind of animation lock and where every player jumps around like a monkey flailing their weapons wildly, the combat system in both FFXIV and TERA are to be preferred for both aesthetic and gameplay related reasons.

I think that as long as they manage to clear up the horrendous latency issues the game currently has, and reduce the cast time of some actions ( 2 second lock on penta thrust.. -.- ) not much else needs to be changed for it to feel much much better and more responsive. Ofcourse, adding Battle regiments and more combos wont hurt either

They only need to make the server-client communication better.
Currently you can evade most enemy ws if you have an open eye, don't be in an animation-lock and move your char in the right moment to another position. The problem is the bad server-cllient communication that make the WS regardless hit you if you waited 1-2 seconds too long.

Since dynamic is pretty vague, I'll go through each of its descriptions because I have nothing better to do. C:

pertaining to or characterized by energy or effective action; vigorously active or forceful; energetic: the dynamic president of the firm.
Yeah, it's going to be pretty energetic and more fluent. Perhaps the increase in the graphical quality will help, but it's ultimately up to the quality of the animations.

Physics pertaining to force or power or pertaining to force related to motion.
There's probably gonna be a physics system... I think...

pertaining to the science of dynamics or pertaining to the range of volume of musical sound..
Yes, there will be great science! And the music will have different beats apparently.

Computers . (of data storage, processing, or programming) affected by the passage of time or the presence or absence of power: Dynamic memory must be constantly refreshed to avoid losing data. Dynamic Web sites contain Web pages that are generated in real time.
    wut

    (from dictionary.reference.com)

Perhaps dynamic isn't they key word here. The battle system is going to be more complex because it is already somewhat complex now. The question is if its responsive, fluid and lag-free, and if the system put in place makes it possible for the player to pull of diverse, complex moves with ease. Will it even work? The simplest battle system can become diverse if its accessible.
