Be patient.First i want to know when the 1.0. servers are going to be offline and when we will be able to play beta 2.0. or anything..
i mean we have august now.. and the time table says that we get the new client in october. where is the information?
would be good to know how long we are able to play the old version. no?
they would tell us 1 week before the shut-down.
Will we need an SOS hotline for survivors?
Well it's not my fault they claim all summer long when they really mean mid august.
Specifically towards the OP: It depends on how polished the Closed Beta is. Perhaps more to the point, it depends on if the Beta is going to be a true beta, in which case they should be taking it very seriously, secrecy and all, or a glorified demo, in which case, of course they should publicize the hell out of it.
Given FFXIV's global image, about the worst thing they could do right now is have videos of glitchy, unpolished gameplay floating about. On the other hand, if the Beta is merely lacking a few applications of finish, by all means I would imagine a very light NDA if any.
Of course, most people probably don't care for my opinion on the matter. I believe in the return of a strong beta that really tests core mechanics out of house. I think that that should be accomplished by a small, carefully chosen group at first, even if that means me and my fellow Legacy players don't get in on the first wave. But that is a discussion for another time.
He said the Warrior Screenshot from the E3 press packet was from the trailer that was completed they wouldn't show due to spoilers and the like, so the trailer we got recently was indeed that trailer they were going to release "with the flood."
So it may be another trailer they're working on (gameplay), but that trailer isn't the one Yoshida said they had finished for awhile and didn't want to show (the one on FFXIV.com right now.)
Do you think Square will be as secretive as they were in beta for v1?
Do you think that will only be for the first few beta's and then maybe allow coverage when it comes to open beta? Or simply keep a lid on it until v2 launches?
I would hope they wouldn't lock all of their info for display...I mean, getting interest in the game should be one of the top priorities. And I notice when big-time youtubers cover mmo's in beta, it helps with hype.
I apologize if this has been covered. If it has, I'll more than willingly accept a lock and redirection to the thread that contains this information. In an interview with Yoshida he mentioned that they would be staying pretty tight lipped because there were some things about 2.0 that he new would create controversy. I presume he meant in a negative way. I think they will probably keep it quite until open beta.
I guess they will be releasing info when the beta comes out. Link to the interview I quoted.Yoshida: [Zips his lips shut] We will definitely be adding more actions and abilities for the current jobs, especially because of the addition of the new PvP gameplay. That will require all new types of crowd-control,buffing and debuffing actions. We will tell you more about this system around when beta comes out.

Which according to the German Rep (I believe) is November, so we have quite a few months to wait.
It's so shady.
Nobody even knows what 2.0 will be like, and yet we are paying for the privilege of possibly wasting our time on a game that could be replaced in 3 months by a load of crap. Or a bigger load of crap, some might say.
They kinda have a responsibility to shed light on any "controversial" changes and features.
