Will 2.0 fix the useless GMs?

I'm assuming this was due to the wards binge down that we just had, in which case you could have simply force d/c'd (there are a number of ways to do this) and your problem would have been solved.
They could have sent you a message telling you this but for something so simple it's really a waste of GM time.

Remember talking to you as well when it happened. Logging out/force disconnecting did nothing unfortunately (mentioned in the OP). Got stuck with a black screen, and was only able to bring up the main menu.

Oh I'm sorry to hear that, it's always worked for me. Were you inside the wards themselves or in Ul'Dah trying to enter the wards?
If you were in the wards themselves then well, yeah.
