Why is the FFXIV fanbase so stubborn and resistant to change?

I should also note that I used autoattack just as an example, because to me, the combat system is one of the biggest problems with the game right now. I don't think just adding autoattack will fix it, either. I think the combat needs to be rebalanced with autoattack in mind but that's all for another thread.

So people who are against autoattack are against fixing the combat system? Seriously. You are falling for the same trap the people fell during the Alpha and Beta. "Let's just take everything as it's handed to us."
