Press and player reactions to the new XIV

Your cousin apparently has an exceptionally low standard of fun. One outlying case doesn't count a significant number of people who start playing the game, and then leave within a week because the game is still boring pre-40 because they can't find parties.

And our doubled subscription rate is a non-indication as well, right?

It's easy to belittle the outliers because you can point at them and say "That guy/girl. Yeah, she's dumb." It's hard to say that when the numbers coming in flat out match your own.

FFXIV has improved in leaps and bounds, and people who have been outside the info loop have failed to be properly informed with that, and this particular editor needs to get smacked for contributing to the problem.

Hi. Um, if you read the Massively article about the trailer (or, about a third of the articles they post overall actually), I'm the commenter Nonsensicles. I can tell you that overall the feeling in the comments is a pretty mixed bag on FFXIV articles in general, but that's as much good as bad.

I'm not sure there's any who flat-out loved the game from launch (apart from their FFXI/XIV columnist, Eliot Lefebvre, but even he acknowledges it was flawed), but there's only a few die-hard trolls who hate it no matter what. And only one of those had any longevity. Most fall in a spectrum from 'it's improved a great deal and the future looks to be bright and in good hands' (where I am) to 'I was burned and am reluctant to trust again, but I'll keep an eye on it just in case they can prove themselves to me'.

IF it's ANY consolation AT ALL, my cousin came over to stay a few days at my place. She has NEVER before played this game! And she has never played a FF title or mmo (Though she has played Runescape o.O...and hated it >.>). I said, "Hey! Wanna give FFXIV a shot?" she said, "I guess.."

So I made one of my characters inactive, and purchased another character slot and let her create a character on my account.

Anyway, I let her play and she couldn't stop. She asked me all sorts of questions along the lines of, 'Will her pc run it?' 'If not, does she need an adaptor for her ps3' (She never really took her ps3 online...but remembers me having to have to buy an adapter for FFXI), 'How much is it?', etc etc. She said when she gets a job, she'd love to get the game herself.

She is not a FF Fangirl.
She was not here for FFXIV's 1st release.
She never played it before.
And yet she loved it.

PRE-2.0 and she loved it.

So what does that tell you?

I do not think that Spy's cousin has a low standard of fun. I bought FFXIV a few days ago, with no knowledge of 2.0. It is very fun. The interface is a bit slower, but it is a very good game. Game reviewers are much more critical, though they are paid to be like this.

Who cares what pundits are saying? I'm just the word on the street in Japan is probably different from ours, and Yoshi understands if he wins his own crowd back the rest will follow. Once the game is out, and people in Japan are raving about it, the news will spread and more will hop on the bandwagon. It's how the world works.

Read some of the comments, I'm amazed no WoW players shot it down on the blizzard forums.

It seems like SE has some respect among afew gamers of actually fixing the game instead of binning it and moving on.

So you guys really think that FFXI started out great like it did??? No it didnt it took time but people came to it eventually. You guys actually play the game and still trash talk it as if you aren't playing it yourself. Give Yoshi some damn credit at least he's trying to bring the game back. I have faith that this game is going to be the best

Yeah I was expecting flame wars, but no, completely opposite. :3 Some guy was even like "Just logged into my little lalafelle, time to get DRG AF! " lol..
