I'm going to have to declare shenanigans.
Why does the latter screenshot show a dip in only one MP bar without any actual change numerically?

For your information, I was that guy with the chocobo avatar posting 8 times. And I'd do it again too except it's annoying only having access to 300 characters per post. : l
I'll be honest, I was !@#$ing pissed when I saw that title.

"Final Fantasy XIV's Latest Deception"
http://www.gametrailers.com/side-mis...-latest-deceit
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Are you @!#$ing kidding me? Really? Can you honestly defend that and not care?
You really think they're trying to deceive people out there with all the hard work and dedication they've given back to us, the players, by being extremely vocal and connected to the community every step of the way?
If you don't feel bothered by it, then that's fine. You have every right to feel how ever you want. And that goes for anyone else out there. But me personally, I felt insulted as well, because you, me, and everyone else that has been playing the game every day has been supporting it just by continuing to play and offer tons of feedback on here.
You also cared to mention this:
"I often see XIV players trying to defend the game on external sites by bashing others non-players or casual players with arguments such as "You have less experience than me so I know better". Yeah but having more experience also mean your feedback has a way higher chance of being biased."
Here's what I say:
It has absolutely NOTHING to do with being more experienced in the game over others, nor an E-penis, or any sort of fanboyish mentality that one might think at some point. Not even being biased over liking the game that someone else doesn't play or didn't like at launch.
I understand what you're saying for the most part. And you're absolutely right, you can most certainly have the chance at looking biased.
But blindly defending the game on some gaming site and properly informing and pointing out errors are two different objectives but can easily be confused sometimes. It's a matter of something someone should do, because it's right to inform. It's bad to misinform like this article does when I noticed it on N4G.com.
You should have every right to properly inform the readers on that site and the editor himself of what he isn't aware of. He should also have been a little more patient and understanding of why they haven't released any gameplay footage yet.
But I'm pretty sure around Gamescom or Tokyo Game Show they'll have plenty more new things to show us.
He should have done a little more research into their plans and the schedule for everything they're releasing around this point in time.
It would enlighten himself and the readers of what it going on and what the plans are from here on out. And deceiving players like he mentions through that trailer is not fair.
He's drawing upon comparisons when the game first launched and the original trailer aired had lead many people to believe the game was complete and polished. However, that all was explained months ago under poor management the first time around, which isn't the case here anymore. It's pretty obviously you can tell the difference.
But for someone who hasn't been playing the game since launch, nor even touched the game at all, it's perfectly understandable why they would get that impression. But those are the readers, he's the editor. His job is to inform us, the readers with the facts and the truth.
THAT is what pissed me off. Not the fact that the users or the editor dislikes the game or is skeptical. That I am fine with, because that is how they feel. It is their own opinion, and opinions can change.
As a professional game journalist, it's their job to do research and understand the situation before claiming they're deceiving the audience and its customers.
That's not trying to blindly defend the game, that's called a wake up call of what has been going on while they haven't been covering the game the past 2 years.
I'm not saying post on their website every single minor patch and maintenance recorded on the lodstone, but at least Kotaku has the courtesy to post every major thing they've released since launch. And believe me I watch New4Gamers.com, Gametrailers.com and Kotaku religiously everyday for FF XIV information.
I know who does and doesn't follow this game. So, as I said on Gametrailers.com and again on here, the users can say whatever they want about the game, that's 100% fair and there's nothing wrong with that.
But as a gaming jounralist, at one of the largest and most popular gaming websites on the planet no less, they should do their research and not spread stupid articles about Sqaure-Enix trying to screw over people once again, while in reality they have specific reasons printed out of their schedule and plans.
I know Yoshida has been working his ass off to make us happy and I can tell he is, same as everyone else, so yeah, I was kind of pissed when Gametrailers.com to post an article for the first time in forever and make it out to be a deception on their part.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And for you to say,
"blind fanboys that would defend anything that SE makes.
I am not saying that this is the case here, but if I was a non-XIV player and would read the comments from actual players who are claiming that the game is amazing blablabla, I wouldn't really give them any credits."
It's not about defending the game, it's about informing someone (which is the journalists responsibility) about what is really going on. He mentions nothing on the improvements the game has made since they reviewed it. Nor any of the many additions added.
Where's the blog post on the final patch before 2.0? (FF XIV: A Realm Reborn)
I'd say that was news worthy and informative.
I checked the logs and FF XIV only has 3 blog posts on their site since launch under their new Side Mission section for editorial writers.
I checked another friendly MMO out there, Star Wars: The Old Republic.
3 pages worth of blog posts.
Big difference, but enough with the comparisons. Just making a point that they didn't care about the game up until they had this trailer released. Meaning they themselves haven't been informed, and now the readers are getting the wrong impression.
Nor has he mentioned the alpha/beta test people can look forward to, nor the gameplay footage that is being planned after the new site and trailer were released. Yoshi P's letters, dev posts and the schedules they had printed out for at least a year now hint to and detail all these things in a sequential order.
They shouldn't spread or start misconceptions about the FF XIV team's goals just because they are jumping the gun after one CGI trailer. If they really cared, they would have made the effort to interview Yoshida @ E3 when Gametrailers was there covering everything else.
If they want gameplay footage over a CGI trailer that is perfectly 100% understandable. I can't fault them one bit for that.
However, posting an article talking about FF XIV and its team deceiving people out there because the writer thinks they're making the same mistakes again is a little premature.
It's ok if people are skeptical or don't end up liking the game for some reason, that's fine. Maybe I would be too? I can understand exactly why someone would feel that way.
But don't pass judgement or post a professional article intentionally making them out to be doing something that would swindle the consumer and/or the players.
That's not very fair, considering they haven't been following the game what so ever since launch, or when the fees reactivated over 7 months ago, as they stated in one of their only blog posts.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
But I'm going off too much on a tangent, so I apologize. I know it's not your fault, you only meant well. I just wanted to get that off my chest and explain the reasons behind my posts on that site for the game.
I never liked any gameing website from spike. I do not like the article this editor typed either. They commonly talk in an unprofessional 'rude' tone (I might be getting it mixed up with G4).
Another sad thing is, they "Can't" show gameplay until they start Alpha and Beta testing, what gameplay are they going to show? Monster's running on air? A dragoon useing Jump when it's animation is going underground? Maybe they could show some stuff from there own servers, but they said that they are still working on it.
Plus this is only the Frist trailer/teaser, there will be more later.
[Edit]
I logged on GT and "liked" all your post.
Holla!
Yup we will see what they accomplished in a years time, while working on updating the current client simultaneously. Of course in more then 5 years time we had 1.0 from SE. So, Im keeping it real.
Ummm doubtful. Its the "in thing" to bash SE lately. Its even more popular to bash FF14 and call it an abysmal flop. I think many reviewers will look for whatever faults they can find and tear the game apart. While some reviewers will want to play good cop and give the game high reviews, just to be different. Then there are the reviewers who gave 1.0 75+ ratings at release... They are going to go bat shit crazy.
The only thing I care about is whether its fun to me and my friends( cause if they start dropping, im out) and whether SE starts hinting at going free to play or something equally drastic. But even then, if its fun ill play.
LOL
And I just realized I typed up a F@#$ing novel above your post.... O______o;; woops.
But yeah, I mean, I don't mean to be an a$$hole to the guy who wrote that article. I even know exactly who he is. He's Mike Damiani on Gametrailers.com's Invisible Walls podcast show, which I've been watching almost every week for years now.
He just isn't really informed on what has been going on with this game and I felt the urge to respond on there since no one else was.
Plus, you nailed it on the head when you typed this:
"Another sad thing is, they "Can't" show gameplay until they start Alpha and Beta testing, what gameplay are they going to show? Monster's running on air? A dragoon useing Jump when it's animation is going underground? Maybe they could show some stuff from there own servers, but they said that they are still working on it."
You said it better than I could! LOL
And it's true! They can't show anything yet in a trailer, unless it's to the public (gaming journalists @ E3 behind closed doors) since the game isn't fully optimized yet. And the editor wasn't aware of that.
And when he responded to me and some other guys in the comments under his username, "MikeGt", he even asked why they didn't show it to the public at E3, and not behind closed doors. That's the reason why.
Good to know someone out there cares! haha
IF it's ANY consolation AT ALL, my cousin came over to stay a few days at my place. She has NEVER before played this game! And she has never played a FF title or mmo (Though she has played Runescape o.O...and hated it >.>). I said, "Hey! Wanna give FFXIV a shot?" she said, "I guess.."
So I made one of my characters inactive, and purchased another character slot and let her create a character on my account.
Anyway, I let her play and she couldn't stop. She asked me all sorts of questions along the lines of, 'Will her pc run it?' 'If not, does she need an adaptor for her ps3' (She never really took her ps3 online...but remembers me having to have to buy an adapter for FFXI), 'How much is it?', etc etc. She said when she gets a job, she'd love to get the game herself.
She is not a FF Fangirl.
She was not here for FFXIV's 1st release.
She never played it before.
And yet she loved it.
PRE-2.0 and she loved it.
So what does that tell you?
つ ◕_◕ ༽つ Tackle box or riot! つ ◕_◕ ༽つ
I feel like the purpose of the demo should be to show the flexibility of the one character/all class content. Maybe cap at 10, and show all jobs?
Your cousin apparently has an exceptionally low standard of fun. One outlying case doesn't count a significant number of people who start playing the game, and then leave within a week because the game is still boring pre-40 because they can't find parties.
