    ^Truth.

Seriously, let people have their fun.

Whatever alleged "exploits" may arise are pretty much irrelevant at this point in time. The game will change come 2.0 so saying what people could or could not do is kind of silly.

However, forcing people to stay as one character is just plain stupid and it should never, ever, EVER be implemented.

To be perfectly honest, using FFXI is a bad example because the biggest reason people made alts in FFXI is because of massive inventory issues. It still has massive inventory issues.
FFXIV on the other hand, starts you off with 200 personal iventory slots (compare to FFXI's 30) and on top of that you get x2 retainers with 150 slots each (compare to FFXI's no retainer). So that means that players have 500 inventory slots. Being able to upgrade to a total of 1000 slots via quest would be awesome. As it was pointed people should not be 500/500 unless you're hoarding (guilty as charged at times) or saving up mats to go craft, which is what I typically do.

So, to worry about the rather vague "exploits" is quite silly as people would more than likely create a character for the new experience of playing a different race and the lore that accompanies it. That is, since inventory is not nearly as big of an issue in FFXIV as it was in FFXI.

Some people just want to play a different race.

Sometimes people want a break from their main character, especially if they're in an endgame shell. I've known plenty of people in FFXI who leveled their alts as a break from their main.

    Let people have their fun.

Half for our inventory slots are going bye bye when 2.0 hits.

Fair enough, but 100 is still more than 30. Not to mention FFXIV does not have gear swapping the way FFXI does which instantly saves you inventory.

Yet in XIV your inventory gets filled with unnecessary crap after even one session of grinding it's actually worse management than XI ever had.

Between capped native inventory, Mog Sack and Satchel, I have zero inventory problems even with gear swapping, and I played all of the mages ontop of Corsair.

Not to mention, this game also requires us to buy gear sets for our crafing jobs. In FF11, you basically just had one or two items to boost your crafts, and you couldn't have more than 2-3 at a significant level either.

Well yes, at the end of a grind I wind up with a lot of crap in my inventory as well. I salvage what I can and NPC sell the rest, problem solved.

Another inventory problem in FFXIV is the fact that you can't really organize it very well. The auto-stack sometimes fails so I'll have like x3 of the same materia taking up space in my inventory and the only way to get them to stack up is by trading to my retainer and taking it out back into my inventory. =\
