Are retainers even gonna be in 2.0? I thought they would change to something less scamy, like they want to do with the characters.

If i remember right, they are going to have retainers level up and what not. So yes they are going to be in 2.0 but going to play a bigger role than just a storage.

I know when the game launched they had delusional ideas of retainers leveling up and being more important but that went nowhere.
I just don't see the point in keeping them (other than the original idea "give them storage mules instead of actual characters because we don't have a mail system") if we're going to have houses (with storage I assume) and an AH that should on paper not need retainers to function.

i..just...don't understand it...its as if your answering with a line that can lead you into complaining about something you don't like.
I shoulda known he ALREADY had a thread about it....
It really doesn't matter. Let Alt lovers love it, if your not into it, ignore it.
People will use Mules one way or another. This hardly needed a thread, nevermind a "NEW" thread.
And for heavens sake stow your ego and stop putting your name on the subject. Let your point stand on its merits and let a debate begin.
It's not about ego, as you can see the whole thing is quoted, my friend created this thread originally but she got banned for imposing as me. So, I re created it. It's a inside joke thing now for me.http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...e-enter-2.0...

Preventing people from creating alts is probably the dumbest idea I've ever read on this forum. Charging extra letting you play with a different group of friends was a pretty dick move in FF11, and I was apalled when I saw FF14 raising this extra cost to three times more than it was in 11. I was thoroughly pleased to see the planned subscription models for 2.0.
It will no doubt encourage me to play level more characters on the same world, and also on additional worlds to play with a bigger array of friends. This will most likely keep me playing FF14 for a longer time than if I just got one character included in the subscription fee. And as said earlier, it doesnt' lead to server overpopulation because you can still only be logged in to one character at a time per account.
You do realize a dick move would be an MMO like WoW charging for extra characters, right?
FFXI and FFXIV has 1 character that can do everything, so charging $1 extra in XI for example was charging for the ID, not the character and if you truly needed or wanted a character, you will buy the ID.

If I'm not mistaken, weren't you restricted in the number of crafts you could take past a certain point per character? I mean not as a big a deal but in FFXIV they're classes. Hopefully they don't use the alts as an excuse to start restricting things...You do realize a dick move would be an MMO like WoW charging for extra characters, right?

You were restricted to the one you can take to 100 (prior to earlier this year), and the rest to 60 (generally more than high enough to do a lot of the synths that aren't main to 1 category, i.e cursed gear was generally fairly up there cap wise.)
Since we already know of one set of restrictions to come (lower inventory space since crystal wise it was temporary) but aside that there isn't much they can limit in this game besides if they do introduce a retainer sharing type system.
It can't do everything. One character can't let me play with people I know on two different servers. It would be a dicker move is WoW did it, yeah. Doesn't mean it isn't still a dick move in FF11.You do realize a dick move would be an MMO like WoW charging for extra characters, right?

What is the reasoning for charging extra for additional characters anyway if you "expect" players to do everything with one character? The hardware and management cost for an additional server is so low that charging extra for it is like charging extra for a paper tissue at a restaurant. It just leaves a bad taste in your mouth.
