    I am playing on gamepad. If they are supporting keyboard and gamepad, they have to do it right. "Just use mouse" is a lame excuse for a glaring fault in the implementation of targeting cycling.
    But I gave you a solution in my previous long comment, if you toggle on only targeting engaged mobs when in active mode it won't target that mob further away it will cycle through those closest to you and for casters if you have 2 buttons set aside assign to Target engaged enemy previous and next this also solves your problem... both cycle through ONLY engaged mobs closest to you first... YOU feel like YOUR talking to a wall, I even explained why your targeting further mobs but I don't think you even read it... I don't know what else to tell you other then to use the mouse, I'm not having the same problem and I'm using a PS3 controller for everything... I don't think you want to try my solutions to fix the problem, you want SE to waste more time adding more features to an already complicated targeting system... It's not broken at all and theres absolutely nothing wrong with the targeting system perhaps we're playing 2 different games with controllers... -_-

    I'll say it one last time the target priority is based on the center of the camera during regular targeting. So where ever the center of your camera is at that time will target whoever in in the area regardless of distance. The Cone shape may work but I see now problem with the current set up either, once you know that your camera center is the Cross hair for targeting you can use that to aim and target any mob you want.. I feel like I need to make a youtube video just to demonstrate how to use the camera to your advantage when targeting... But if they add your cone targeting system I hope they leave the old system because I like aim targeting better then cycling through targets.

    I went to farm some aldgoat skins today. With direct targeting on and two aldgoats standing in a row in front of me, it targeted the one BEHIND the nearest one. Like this.

    Targeting only engaged mobs doesn't fix that. It only limits it to a smaller selection of mobs, and with gamepad having few mapping options I'm not sure how I am supposed to target a mob not engaged to me while having another one engaged, for example when being the puller in a group.

    What I want is this:

    ----3----
    -2-------
    ---1-----
    ----x----

    Seriously? Dude, "talking to a wall" was aimed at Firion being stuck with his vertical list being better than the same list aligned horizontally.

    It's all great you are satisfied with the current targeting system, I'm not. And I'm not alone on that. No matter who I ask ingame, people agree the targeting system is one of, if not the most frustrating aspect of this game.

Please understand that we have taken your suggestion and passed it off to the dev. team but we can't always discuss things that are in-development.

    As you're aware, the targeting system is being completely revamped in version 2.0 so there are a lot of great improvements that are being made. We ask that you wait for the Alpha test and beyond to review the progress of the targeting system developed based on the communities' (including your) feedback.

    I understand you guys get what you can and you do a great job on here, I don't put any blame on you in this regard, but the only information we have been receiving is ones translated from the JP forums. I feel like the developers don't bring much attention to the NA/EU side and I see really good topics here that I don't see in the JP forum not responded to even though it is highly popular. I understand there are communication borders, but its so rare we ever get a specific response. It would be nice if developers payed attention to our side just as much as JP.

    Again, thank you for everything you guys do. I just ask for updates that I haven't already read on the JP side/Reinhart's threads already.

    They aren't ignoring the NA/EU side. They just post in Japanese because that's the language they speak and write most, so it all goes on the JP board first, regardless of the source of the feedback. You'll find that for most of the changes that get implemented, both the JP and NA sides were giving similar feedback. What we all want from the game isn't always as far apart as you might think. In the cases where only NA or only JPs think XYZ should happen, it probably wouldn't be as likely to get changed.

    It's just frustrating that people have been complaining of the targeting system since the launch of the game and we're met with silence, and then a comment which had nothig to do with the underlying problem.

    I know things are to be redone in ver 2.0 but it's something that could have been implemented to have a positive direct and profound impact on the current game.

    Thankyou for a more direct answer. Like many others i'm patiently awaiting the alpha/beta test of 2.0, and all it's solutions it's promising.

    Add ground-based targeting for AoE so you don't have to cast three times before hitting the enemies you want to when they die too early.

    This! It'd be so nice to have some sort of circle or cone outline showing where your moves are going to hit, and then you could aim it with the mouse or something (think along the lines of how the League of Legends game does it).
