Look me up, I'll repair your stuff for free anytime, just add me to your friends listI carry the materia. I seek for repairs using materia as a reward. Seek while i wear and bazaar full of stuff. It is just annoying. And since i cant play in windowed mode, I cant really do anything else but log off.
Not gonna:
1.Craft
2.Spam "Please fix my stuff <pos>"
3.pay 5000 per
Gear damage is a dumb system. It always has been; it's nothing more than a gilsink. But not even so, since the income travels from one person to the next.
Then again, if this game had Reraise, I wouldn't give two craps about gear damage. Nothing is worse than dying in a primal fight and not having some sort of RR. It would make the fights for the mages a bit easier, especially since there tend to be a lot of BLMs, instead of THMs.
Hello,
The 'Repair' system was meant as a way to 'penalize' people for dying. There probaly was concern that if they allowed one to loose a level or XP then this would seem harsh (or too tough for casuals). Also if they allowed one to die without any penalty, then death would be considered irrelevant. So as a compromise they choose gear degradation. Which in reality is not that harsh of a penalty. You have to die a LOT before you notice anything.
It is unlikely it will change in the immediate future (as it is closely bound to game mechanics and penalties) but who knows about the future and what other form of penalty we will get instead.
In the mean time here are a few tips that should make it easier to deal with repairs:
1) Once an item gets to about 50% or so, put up your repair flag. Then just go about your business and someone will notice it and repair it.
2) If you are in an event (CC, AV, Garuda, etc.) you can put up your flag there. Often someone is around who can help repair, or one of your party mates can help repair.
3) You can also collect all your damaged items and ask in an LS for some repairs, meet together, and go through them all.
4) You can idle in Ul'dah (perhaps when you go to sleep, or need to go out for a bit, just leave yourself idling in Ul'dah). Some good spots are between the wards bric'a'brac, as a lot of crafters work and run through here so can see you.
I do repair some gear but it's the running around that gets to me. SE should designate an official crafting/repair area in each town where crafter could work on their normal crafts and people could drop by for repairs. I used to try to help people who shouted in Uldah but they always stood in the most crowded places and by the time the person loaded so I could help I was already fed up.
Death penalties aren't only about making players afraid of dying, its a Gil sink. Plain and simple. We don't have many and a lot of us can already avoid most of them. There is too much money being pumped into the economy and SE needs to find ways to take some out
So let me get this straight
you want people to repair your stuff
1) cheap
2) without you asking
3) and quickly
4) and you refuse to level any craft yourself
sounds like a personal issue that has nothing to do with the actual system

the fact that some people think 5k for a repair to 99% is expensive is pretty bad when you can earn that with a minute of work
