    On topic:
    Let me conjure an illustration
Like Firon said, AF was meant to be the iconic thing for you, things for new player, fresh from their 1st 50, who still dont have lots of money and willing to do some sort of end game. They by all mean incomparable with double even triple melded player, who willing to burn their pocket for double/triple melded
Now being able to meld/custom it would ruins it purpose for 1) it would need some fair amount of money or skills to do it, which new player dont have, 2) it wouldnt be a "uniform" for corresponding job because everyone has it differ, and lastly, 3) for god sake its storyline item. please hands off from story line item
And I dont mind for upgrade, like some series of quest later. But please make it uniform with other player, because it suppose to be a job "uniform".

Im sorry, I dont understand any of your rambling
    sober up, dude
    EDIT
great idea is not great idea untill its proven
You're the imbecile, not me. Also, ideas can't be proven unless it's a theory, or something that CAN be proven. What drugs are you on, exactly?

Sure, AF gear is meant to be the 'uniform' and it's meant to be iconic. However, it's also gear. 99% of AF in it's current state now, is useless and most people don't bother with it unless they're, as you say, new players with no gil or access to other drops. I fall into this category.

What if I feel that I should be able to keep using some of my worn-out pieces of AF? What if I, the new player without gil or items and cash to meld them has no steady means of such thing? It's unfair to such a demographic, to not give it some form of optional upgrade, or chance to make the gear more useful and practical.

As I said before, if you read any of my last post (which you didn't, I'm sure) you'd know that I mentioned upgrading the gear through quests. Whether it's gathering materials or killing an NM, I think I should be able to undergo such content that would be a mild challenge, but still something simple enough to overcome that has it's own reward.

Should upgraded AF be best in slot? If you think I'm asking for that, you're far more dense than I anticipated. All I'm asking is that AF become practical and tangible rather than something useless that should sit in an armoire or go on a mannequin.

Giving some decent upgrade options to make AF viable in more situations is by no means a large request. As a matter of fact, I know a lot of people in two shells who would enjoy this option very much. Not only would it give new players a chance, but it would also add to the current gear pools and give everyone more options, whether or not they have DL or double/triple melds.

I'm asking you nicely to either learn to read, or just don't say anything at all, Rina. Nothing constructive comes out of your lips anyway.

If you could meld AF there would be no point in having any other gear.

In my opinion it's better to have AF as gear that boosts your job specific abilities more so than your stats, which it already does but needs to do more. This way it feels like it belongs to the job, it means it can't be weighed against a regular item easily, and also means some pieces remain useful for a while but aren't free endgame pieces.

AF upgrades could mean raised / new stats for when (if ever) a new level cap is introduced.
Meaning when we get a new level cap, the AF gear could be upgraded to +1 via an NPC (or much like Relic weapon quest),
raising the attributes & bonus stats of the AF piece to match the new level cap.

Limited thinking wont get us anywhere, anywayz...this is just an idea.
(fixed misstype so it dosent get to personal)

Wich if im not mistaken...is what this forum is or should be about.
Discussing new idea's & improving the game.

For all we know...we might even get some new craft-class one day that can
enchant / inscribe gear with magical attributes to a certain point, kinda like a "WoW" enchanter.
