I think what SE wants is the success that FF7 was. Before FF7, Squaresoft was a fairly popular company and was doing well for themselves, but it was FF7 that truly opened the door for the company and I believe they just want the next Final Fantasy that will do that for them again. I believe they want FFXIV 2.0 to be that. Will it be able to accomplish this? I can't say, but I do like their thinking. We shouldn't cling to the past, we should embrace the future and find the next title that people will want a sequels and spin-offs of.
FF7 while not my favorite (Game is still incredible and was a huge technical leap for RPG's for it's time.), it was able to accomplish things beyond good sales, and I just want to see the next FF that does that.
Define "quality."
Final Fantasy XII, to me, was leaps and bounds better than Final Fantasy VII in every single way.
What "Quality" does FFVII have?
It's a convoluted love/friendship/revenge story:
Cloud: I'm a somewhat genetically engineered person, I was found by Zack and remained in a vegetative state for half the damn story-line, I conveniently wake up once he's shot a bazillion times, take his sword and then proceed to take his GF, I love her, but I love my best friend with huge tits too, I KNOW I'll lie about my up bringing and take all the good qualities of Zack and make them my own (chicks LOVE liars!!) did I mention that I work for a group of benedicts called SHINRA?
There's this crazy fellow who's was genetically engineered as a baby by this emo dude's crush (Stupid whore) he killed my BF's GF that I had a huge boner for, and wont admit that I like miss.bigtits because I'm too much of a pussy.
I kill crazy person trying to destroy everyone I knew and loved and live happily ever after.
(Did I mention the game I'm in is being used as a cashcow product now and people will never stop whining about wanting a re-make?)
IMO FFX had more quality than FFVII (Also getting the HD version once it's out FFX FTW!)
This sums up my problem with 12.
The leveling systems in the newer FF games have been annoying me since X. I don't like earning ribbons so I can buy tokens and then spend the tokens on emblems so I can use the emblems for cookies which I spend on increasing my stats.
that is actually funny. they need a license to wipe their own butt lol. FFX same deal with the sphere grid. This is something I'm so glad XIV can do without. This sums up my problem with 12.

Top FFVII?? I thought FF9 and FF12 were both better than FF7. Hell FF11 to me was waaaay better if you can count that one which you should because it's a numbered FF...
FFVII...pfff...
Nothing beats FFV & FFVI.
(Then again, none wich are mmo...and neither is FFVII)
Meh. FF7 is underrated at this point with the sheer amount of people who incessantly talk shit about it and each one still somehow thinks they are going against the grain. These days if you even think about mentioning FF7 at all someone will jump out from behind a rock and bite your head off. Actually you don't even have to think about mentioning it, they will bite your head off pre-emptively.
