Oh god If I were stuck in grid i would have quit the game.Wouldn't mind being able to signup in a city to participate at a certain behest camp and/or signup for levequests then use the signups as authorization to teleport out from the main city atheryte. Then have a free return back to a city much like how assault(levequests) and campaign(behest) teleports work in FFXI.
Probably half the amount of anima and keep it for meetups as suggested before but I'd remove the ability to teleport from region to region. If not then at least restrict it from low level players being able to do so. Though I'd still rather see anima be awarded as points by doing various stuff ingame than have it gained via a very slow timer.
And I don't know but I feel access to the other regions should be eventually earned. So when airships and chocobos are available I'd like only chocobos able to get past zonelines. Basically meaning that new players would need to spend alittle time in their home nation before the world opens up to them. Then they can travel around the world as they please.
Just weird random thoughts that no doubt won't work but I thought I'd may as well share just incase.
TBH with everyone posting about the removal of Anima, or the reduction of Anima or it's recovery rate:
1: If you think it detracts from the experience of moving across the realm and seeing all the sights simply don't use it.
2: If you think that Anima should have a lower rate of recovery please note that it takes about a day (24 hours) to recover 4 Anima currently. So you have to figure 1 day for 1 teleport. Unless teleporting to a favorite location of which you can have 3 of those set. Thats slow enough.
3: If you believe that the amount of Anima a character has needs to be reduced, (see above). You still have higher costs the further you travel in one teleport. If you attempt to travel from Limsa Lominsa to Gridania the cost is 6, as opposed to going from LL to Ul'Dah which is 4 (3?). And you have to manage it since you only have 100 to do this with (25-33? teleports total). For people like me who travel between the towns to pick the best of the Leves available any reduction to either recovery of Anima or the amount of Anima you can store would simply make it a useless system. This is without even adding in additional areas that you know are coming. These areas that will most likely take you even further away from any sort of Aetheryte or camp/town.
4: When Chocobos/Airships/Ships/(whatever else they decide to implement as a form of travel) are implemented, they will still require time to travel between areas. You don't get on an Airship and be immediately transported halfway across the world. Didn't it take a good 15-20 minutes in XI by ship? Chocobo are just a faster means of transportation than your feet so maybe you reduce the travel time by half. When it takes 30 minutes to cross a single zone I don't believe Chocobo will represent a good "instantaneous" travel method either.
5: Warp is good and all, but why take something thats implemented already and rework it into a job ability?
6: As was previously mentioned you don't want to make a party wait an hour for you to arrive at a location thats completely out of the way, so there has to be some method of instant transport. Anima is already here so it fits the bill.
Also as a side note: Chocobo were already mentioned to be more than just transportation. Now whether or not this will limit their travel ability is yet to be seen, although it should be considered.
Maybe it's just me but the current Anima system with its teleports and returns is good enough to not be removed or changed. It already forces the use of other travel methods if used too often.

Even with 90+ animas, i would love travel by chocoobos and airships !
Teleporting to camps via crystals and animas is exactly like outpost warps from FFXI. The only difference is the inability to warp back to your home state. (which would be nice).

They can also make you actually be by a node or aetheryte and you can teleport only when by them.
There is A HUGE DIFFERENCE in wasting time on thngs i WANT to do (ranking up, crafting, HAVING FUN) and then wasting time on things i DONT WANT TO DO (walking from town to town to use crafiting bounses, NOT HAVING FUN). think about what you said for a secondThis is an mmo in which you put your spare time into, is it not? Wasting time on walking in a game that your wasting time playing makes no sense -_-
Anywho, I think they should go back to anima before they changed it in that one update when they add chocobos and airships. I have no sense of adventure anymore in this game.
I also love Cairdeas' idea!
Do you walk to work when you can drive? Do you walk up the stairs when you have an elavator? Do you wait on a longer line at the super market instead of the shorter one. When you are on vacation do you drive from New york to CA or take a plane?
Think about what you said again mab you can understand that you made ZERO sense just now. lol. Who wants to go home and walk in a MMO to get to where they want to be instead of getting there and having fun just because its your spare time? anyone?

Again having multiple options available doesn't detract from anything. To each his own. If you want to walk from place to place wasting hours of time just to see the sights, then by all means do so. It all hinges on your choice to do so, but don't limit other peoples choice by having the other options removed. If you end up using the faster means of travel don't go about complaining that "It ruined your sense of adventure" or "It makes the game less engaging". Because in reality you must not have wanted your engaging adventure if you chose to move about faster to begin with. It's all choice. You choose yours and I'll choose mine.

The only thing I see wrong with this anima system is the ability to teleport FROM anywhere. They should do it so you need to touch an aetheryte to be able to teleport to another one.
